In the search to find ones self a more complex problem comes to light and the fight begins. | |||
Ch.2 “Welcome to the War.” “Yes I knew you would come up with something!” Hummer buzzes around the room haphazardly in excitement. Pulse walks over to me and puts her hand on my shoulder. “Welcome to the war my friend.” * * * We sit around the table, a tire with plywood on it, discussing my plan of attack. “Alright so the Renegades don't know we're here” I motion to me and Pulse. “That means we have an extra advantage on our side. Hummer will act as a diversion to draw them out of hiding. Once they're out in the open Pulse and I will move in for the attack.” “Suddenly, I'm not liking this plan so much” Hummer says nervously. “He's right that's dangerous for him to be out in the open alone like that” Pulse states looking at me concerned. I search my thoughts trying to revise the plan to make up for this weakness. I stare down at my hand and wiggle my fingers. I clench my fists and turn my hands to steel and back for a brief moment. “Alright I'll go out with him for protection. They don't know what I can do so we still have some surprise and Pulse will still be lying in wait.” “Sounds like a plan captain” she nods her head in approval. Captain... my head spins for a moment at the meaning of this title. It strikes me that I really am leading them which means their lives are in my hands. I can't let them down. * * * We stand in the doorway of the base readying ourselves for the battle to come. The wind is still with hardly a scent in the air. I scope the barren city in front of us then look back and motion to Pulse. She nods and climbs out the back window out of sight. Hummer and I move slowly into the sunlight. Walking into the middle of the street to draw attention we walk through the wasteland before us. “You scared kid?” I notice his arms trembling a bit. I look at him as his eyes dart uneasily back and forth across the streets. “Yeah I'm good” he says voice shuddering. I notice some rubble slightly shift on the top of a building to our left. I fake a laugh to make it seem as if were having a normal conversation. I pat him on the back and glance back to see a shadow dart into an alleyway. My heart starts to race knowing the unchangeable circumstances were in. Through the darkness of a broken window to our right, I hear the crunch of glass being stepped on and I know were surrounded now. I squeeze Hummers shoulder. “You ready for this?” I notice him shaking more. “Don't worry just stick close to me it will be ok.” A long oblong shape shadow crawls along the ground from behind us. It stops a few feet back and forms vertical into the shape of a man. I stop cold and look back but he doesn't say a word. “So after we kill your whole team you still keep coming back ha kid?” I spin back around to see another man...the same one from the lab building! “Oh and look here you're back too ha its like one big reunion. He chuckles and snaps his fingers. A dark looking man in his thirties jumps from the roof to our left landing lightly on the ground. “Of course you remember Streamline.” I stare at him but don't seem to have any recollection. “Oh what was I thinking Streamline show him what he remembers.” The man crosses his arms tight in front of him concentrating hard when two bat wings erupt from his back. “Much better” he grunts flexing his wings. “I never did get to my name ha? Well anyways in case you live the names Click here to read the rest of this story (281 more lines)
