As new friends are made his life begins to slowly reveal. | |||
Ch.1 Untold Beginnings Slowly I begin to regain my senses. I am so cold and seem to be laying on some kind of cot with a thin blanket over me. The room smells damp and is completely dark as my eyes try to slowly adjust. I listen intently but only hear the sound of my own breathing. I slowly raise my head and as my breathing changes I catch the faint sound of another breathing pattern. Some one was breathing in time with me. I hold my breath for a minute but they do as well. I lay my head back down and hope they haven't notice my movement. Holding my breath as long as I can my lungs begin to burn. I wait for just one breath so I can get a location on the other figure in the room. I finally hear it only a few feet from where my head lay and my heart skips a beat. Being almost completely blind I don't have much of a chance so I hope for the best. “Whose there” I ask into the darkness. “Don't be afraid.” The voice is higher and softer than I was expecting. A light ignites next to me and shines across the room. I blink my eyes hard trying to see against the hard light. “Oh sorry” the light dims and as the spots in my eyes begin to fade the figure slowly comes into view. Gentle eyes stare back at me waiting for me to speak. “You're a girl” I ask somewhat surprised at this fact. “Um...” she looks up and down at herself sarcastically “as far as I know.” She giggles as my question really needed no answer. She's a teenage girl with blue eyes, short shoulder length hair and light skin, probably around seventeen. “Sorry that's not what I meant I just didn't expect a girl to be in this war zone or wherever I am.” I sit up in the bed to look around to view just an empty room. The only furniture is the cot I'm on, a crate with a lantern on it and a crate she's sitting on. “Well you got the war zone part right.” She giggles and gets up. “Oops I almost forgot” she reaches under the crate and grabs something. “Here put these on” she throws some clothes at me and I begin to realize I wasn't wearing any except for this blanket. Somewhat embarrassed I grab the tattered cargo pants and long sleeve shirt. “So what's your name and what were you doing passed out in an alleyway?” She turns around as I get dressed. “Well I don't really know.” “You don't know your name or why you were in an alley?” She laughs as though I'm trying to mess with her. “Either actually.” “Really” the sincerity in my voice compels her to turn around and make sure I'm telling the truth. “All I remember is waking up in some kind of hospital, being chased by some smoke breathing creature, jumping out a window and then ending up here.” I sit down on the cot sullen that I can't give her the answers but even more that I can't give them to myself. “Oh no” there's despair in her voice like I've just revealed some grave information. “They must have gotten to you before you were completely restored.” Restored? I think. What am I some kind of computer. She continues “so you have no memory at all of whom you are or why you're here?” “No I can't remember anything before today.” “You mean yesterday.” “What?” Why would she think I remembered the day before? “Dude you've been out for a full twenty four hours.” She laughs at the confusion on my face. “Ok well I better start from the beginning so are Click here to read the rest of this story (399 more lines)
