A new family moves into town, so Jenny and her friends go to get to know them. Once in the attic of the cursed house, playing a children's game, they unleash the demons.

When they arrived home, Momma walked out to make sure she was okay.
Startled to see Billy Ray, she generously offered, "Won't you come stay
with us for dinner. We're having fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green
beans, and my perfect apple pie." Jenny wanted to scream at her, ask
her how could she have invited him in? He was mean and cruel and he
liked Anna more than her.

"No thank you m'am. I would love to but my pa's expecting me back. I
just thought I'd drop Miss Jenny off," he graciously declined, making
Jenny sigh in both relief and disappointment. Why didn't he want to
come in? Did he think he was too good for her family or was he too
embarrassed to face Anna?

"All right, then good night," she helped Jenny out who quietly thanked
him for taking her home, then her mom whispered roughly in her ear, "I
don't mind you being with him but I want to know what happened."

"I ain't ever going on another date with Shawn or Billy Ray," she
suddenly sobbed then pulled away from her mother and ran up the stairs.
Moments later, Anna was up the stairs and beside her in her room.

"Jenny, Jenny? What's wrong?" her voice was quiet and sweet, the
kindness in her making Jenny cry even harder.

"Tell me what's wrong. I'll try to fix it," she offered.

She sat up and glared at her, "You can't fix it. He likes you instead
of me. He wanted to know if you had a boyfriend and he was all sad
when I told him you never talk about him. It's not fair. He's so good
and he saved me. He was gonna do bad things to me then he came along
and saved me. It's not fair."

Anna held up a slender white hand, "Now Jenny, I don't want to be rude,
but you ain't makin' any sense. Who saved you? Who likes me? And who
was gonna do bad things to you?"

"Shawn and his friends were gonna do bad things, I know they was but
Billy Ray overhead them and saved me. Then he took me on a beautiful
picnic and I thought it was just perfect," here she gave a heavy sigh,
"But he only took me out to find out about you. I wasn't of any
interest to him."

"Billy Ray?" Anna's voice softened on the last syllable and suddenly
Jenny knew that it was a mutual interest, "I didn't know he even knew I
was alive. What did he want to know? I mean, I'm sorry he doesn't
like you in the same way." Jenny couldn't help but smile, she was
being silly. She only liked Billy Ray cause he saved her but Anna
liked him cause she knew him.

"He wanted to know if you had a boyfriend," she explained.

Anna's cheeks flushed and she smiled, "Tell him that I said no next time
you see him and that I could always use one." The two girls giggled
then she piped up, "Oh, I meant to tell you when you got home that a
new family's moved into town. You know how they've been fixing up the
Kdowskis' place? Well, they've moved in there. Can you imagine?"

"No, how creepy. I wonder if they know what happened there?" Jenny
pondered. The Kdowskis had moved in about the time a rash of serial
killings began. In all, there had been thirteen murders, eleven
teenage boys and girls, their teenage son, and the wife who had helped
in the other murders. The father had hung himself and the house,
although cleaned of all evidence, had been left as it had been. The
rumor was that there had been a giant black metal mirror found in the
basement and that it held the souls of those murdered. If someone were
to find the mirror and chant five times before it, "Black mirror, black
mirror, release those souls that you keep", that it would do so. Of
course, it was all in theory and no one had ever dared to brave the
dark halls of the house to find out if it were true.

The next morning, Jenny was woken up by her friend, Cordelia, shaking
her furiously, "Wake up sleepyhead. Max and I came over to get you to
go see the new neighbors. I thought we'd swing by Jackie and Rebecca,
see if they want to come."
