Louisa (more commonly known as Lou) and her relationship with Evan...her youth pastor. | |||
When everyone else is gone, and you're all alone in the basement of a building that your youth pastor swears is haunted, you can't help but panic. I had told my parents I was staying later, because I was supposed to stay to talk to Evan...but then Evan disappeared. He was probably in his office, but he told me to wait, and I really wasn't in the mood to chase him down. This talk with Evan really needed to happen, but if he didn't get his butt to the basement in about 30 seconds, I was ready to bolt. The basement of the youth building didn't bother me most of the time, but when there was no one else there, it was kind of hard not to be scared. “Hey!” I jumped out of my seat and spun around to see Evan, doubled over in laughter, standing in the doorway. “Oh man, that was awesome.” “Sometimes I seriously hate you.” “Oh come on, Lou, you know I was kidding.” I smirked and sat back down on the couch. He slammed down next to me, his long legs stretching out as he leaned in to the back of the couch. “So what's up?” He asked, fishing through his pocket for his phone, turning it off and tossing it on another couch. “I can't do it.” He tilted his head to the side and cocked one eyebrow, looking me straight in the eye. “Do what?” I looked down and his hand brought my chin up so that our eyes met. “Do what, Lou?” “Tell you. I can't tell you.” I sighed, moving to get up. He brought his hand down on my thigh and gripped my wrist with his other hand. “Yes you can. You can tell me anything, you know that.” I shook my head, shoved his hand of my thigh and stood up. “I can't.” His hand still gripping my wrist, he pulled himself up and looked me in the eye. “It can't be any worse than what you told me last time.” I sighed. Oh, yes, it can. “Come on, Lou, you can trust me, you know that.” “You really shouldn't be the first person I'm telling. Mark doesn't even know yet.” Oh, shit. Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. “Why would Mark need to...?” Evan stopped and dropped my wrist. “No. No, no, no, no, no. That's not possible.” “Actually...” He grimaced. “You know what I meant. I can't believe this! This is not happening.” I nodded. “Yeah, Evan, it is.” He sighed and sat back down on the couch. “So, I'm going to be an uncle?” I nodded. “I guess so.” “You guess so? What does that mean?” “Well, I mean, if Mark and I...well...if we keep the baby.” “You mean like, not give it up for adoption?” “No...” I can't believe I have to explain this to him. “I mean, if I have the baby.” “Oh, you're having the baby.” He said his tone very adult, and rather parental. “Excuse me?” I took a step back and leaned in to the wall. “I don't think you get to decide this, Evan!” “You're not having a...a...” He looked down. “An abortion?” He grimaced.
