Shiver - Pt. Three

Freya G

Claire took two weeks off work. She wanted to be home and helped her
sister with the preparation for the wedding. Shari had been awfully
busy that they could hardly talk on the phone. She planned to come a
week before the party to surprise her sister.

Only to find surprises.

'Where's Shari?' Claire asked as soon as her mother opened the door for
her.

'Claire! How are you?' her mother gave her a warm welcoming hug. 'I
thought you won't be here until next week'

'I'm Ok, mother. I just thought I should come earlier to make a
surprise! Where is she?'

'Shari? She had been busy running around back and forth preparing
things. I've given her the best party organizer I could find, but you
know your sister. She wants to do it her way and none other' Mrs.
Perchant helped Claire with her bags.

'Now, I haven't made your appointments with the hair dresser. We have to
call her now that you're here'

'I'll try, mother. Where's dad?' Claire helped herself a glass of water.

'Oh, he's off golfing with Mr. Jenner! He's been avoiding idling in the
house for too long. All the party preparations drives him nuts' Mrs.
Perchant was obviously in a good mood.

'So, who is this guy Shari going to marry?' Claire asked.

'You don't know? I thought you knew' her mother gave her the 'ah, you're
just kidding me' look.

'I don't. Shari hadn't told me. She had been very busy each time I
called her'

'But it's your best friend. He hadn't told you either? It's Christopher
Warren. He proposed to her three days before I called you last week. I
thought you knew' Mrs. Perchant answered casually.

Claire's mouth and throat suddenly went dry. Her whole joints suddenly
went weak and were about to come off. She had nearly given way and
dropped the glass before she sat down.

'Claire? What is wrong?'

It took her several seconds before she could answer to her mother. 'I'm
a bit tired I think. I need to rest for a while'

'Oh, must be the plane trip. If you only had told us you were coming
today, I will get you the first class seat, instead of the coach. It's
so cramped to sit in the coach for more then an hour' Mrs. Perchant
failed to see how devastated her daughter was.

'You just go and rest, child. I will have someone to bring your bags up'

'Thanks, mother'

Claire managed to walk upstairs. Her parents still kept her room just in
case she ever returned home. Her mind was blank. She could feel the
chill running through her veins. She thought she would exploded,
spontaneously combusting.

She passed Shari's room on the way to her old one.

The door wasn't locked. She went inside. Shari's room as a woman was a
lot different then she could remember when she was still living in this
