CHAPTER NINE THE FOG ROLLS IN The laughter rang through the camp, loud and clear. Out on the Recreation Field, about one hundred teenagers rolled in the mud. Others stood on the sidelines, snapping pictures of their friends and making fun of the mud covered teens. Alyssa was one of the sideline teenagers and her light blue eyes followed one mud covered male in particular. His name was Ben and he was nineteen. He was one of the coolest guys she had ever met and she did have a crush on him. "If you like him so much, tell him," Shelby encouraged. She was turning nineteen soon and she believed in expressing feelings. She was highly dramatic but an excellent friend. "Yeah right, I doubt he even knows I'm alive," Alyssa laughed but her eyes never left the speedy boy. "He'll never know unless you tell him," Barbra advised. Barbra was Alyssa's best friend and she had been through a lot. "Oh, so let's tell him! I don't think so. Just leave me alone about him," Alyssa had lost her patience with her friends about her crush. They'd been picking on her since Sunday and it was now Tuesday. "Fine, but I still think you need to stop being so shy," Shelby chuckled and Alyssa shot her a dirty look. John came running up, covered in mud. "Can I have a hug?" he inquired, a sly grin barely visible through the mud. "Get away from us John," Melissa threatened. Melissa was the youngest of the four at the age of fifthteen. "Ah come on," he touched Melissa and she hissed with rage. "I will have to get you back," she puffed and he took off laughing. "Ooh he irritates me," she growled. "Trust us, we know," Shelby smirked. "I'm going to go for a walk, I'll meet you up at the cabin," Alyssa decided. She had to get away from the crowd, had to go think on her own. She really did need to do something about Ben for he was single right now, but what? "Want me to go with you?" Barbra inquired. She was always willing to go to places and Alyssa was so grateful but not right now. "No, I think I want to go off on my own for a while," she waved farewell to her friends and walked towards Memorial Hall. The setup of the camp had changed because it had relocated. They were now on the side of the mountain and the cabins were scattered up the side. The only way that they could be seen was by thin tendrils of smoke that snaked their way into the air. There were fires in the fireplaces which was why there was smoke. "Hey Alyssa, where are you going?" Brenda, the nineteen-year-old counselor inquired. She was married to another counselor named Tyson. "I was just going to grab my camera from the cabin. I forgot it," she replied. "Woah, de je vous, I had that same instance. Only I ran into a stalker," she laughed. "Wow! I was there during winter camp when you thought he was back and everyone thought you were crazy. I heard that a several campers died up here. Is that true?" Alyssa was curious for many rumors floated around. "Actually yeah but not up here. This camp is brand new, this is the Click here to read the rest of this story (622 more lines)
