Jack comes to the conclusion that she must fight the evil for it has taken her friends and will destroy all, unless she can bring it down.

CHAPTER SIX THE SNOW CONTINUES TO FALL

"David, I am just uncomfortable with the snow. I've been having weird
dreams," Jack mumbled from inside the Mess Hall. David was sitting
beside her, looking longingly at the snow outside.

"What kind of dreams?" his voice sounded disgusted.

"Horrible dreams, just please trust me, we are better off inside than
out," she begged him to believe her. They could barely see several of
their friends engaged in a heavy snow fight through the still falling
snow.

"Please, just forget your dreams and come out and play in snow," he
looked at her with such longing in his eyes.

"I can't and you shouldn't," she responded. How could she explain that
evil of unspeakable measures was waiting to knock them off? She
shivered with worry and in her heart, knew that she would not be able
to convince David to leave the snow alone. In fact, she had a feeling
that she was pushing him away and really angering him.

"Ask yourself if it is truly fair that you are keeping me from the snow.
I have never seen snow and my crappy girlfriend won't let me play in
it when I finally have a chance," he leapt up and his eyes blazed with
anger. Jack recoiled in hurt. She knew that the outburst was coming
but he had no right to call her names such as crappy. How dare he?
She was only trying to protect him from an evil that only she and Tonya
knew the strength of, and perhaps, by now, a few other people had
experienced that strength.

"Fine, go play in the snow. I don't care if you die and never come
back. I'm obviously to crappy to care," she stood up and turned her
back on him. Her heart burned with sadness and pain. She honestly
cared for David but the instinct to survive was stronger than the
instinct to find a life partner. She knew that she was being as low as
he was but he had hurt deeply. He was too stupid to realize that she
was not kidding around.

"Jack, look, I'm, uh, I didn't mean, Jack, are you listening to me?" he
touched her shoulder but she yanked away.

"Go play in the snow David. I dare you to," she turned back around and
the stony expression on her face made David swallow. He had hurt her
and she was now blocking him out of her world. She would not be hurt
for she could not handle it. She felt the uncontrollable urge to smash
everything in her way but she fought it down desperately. She had to
keep control but she felt that soon she would loose it.

"Jack," he began but stopped. For once in his life, he was at a loss of
words and he didn't know what to do. Jack walked towards the door.

"Better yet David, I'll play in the snow and vanish so you'll never have
to worry about me again," she cast over her shoulder as she walked out
the door. Perhaps that was the best thing but she would never give up
just because a boy had hurt her. She wished that she had Brenda to
talk to for she always could calm her down. It was too late now, she
knew that they would never be leaving.

"I'm sorry Jack," he forlornly uttered after the door shut. He stood
there alone for a few seconds then went outside to play in the snow.

Jack walked towards her cabin, her tears turning into ice and being
blown away. She could see her breath and she felt as if she were cold
in every way possible. She couldn't believe that David had called her
crappy. She had only been trying to save his life but he was too damn
ignorant to see that fact. She could hardly see the cabins and five
feet in front of her when all of a sudden something huge and white
lunged out of the snow. It had got into camp and she was going to be
it's victim.

"No, please," Jack dropped to her knees and put her arms up to her face
to ward off the attacker. Somehow it had gotten into the camp but
there was not the nauseating sense of evil penetrating her every body
cell.
