The next two chapters of my book, now called Cat's Eye. | |||
Encounter “We're going to town today.” Aaron told us. “Where are we, anyway?” I asked. “A state park just outside Richmond, Virginia. I think it's called Pocahontas State Park. We're going to Chester. It's a town right near here.” “Are we out of food already?” “Yeah, last time we bought food was when Kate showed up, a week ago.” “Oh, yeah. I forgot.” I said. It's already been a week. “Remember, guys, no goofing off.” Aaron said, looking at Clif. “Why do you look at me?!” “12 years old. Boston. Window. Need I say more?” Clif blushed, and Jake shifted his feet uncomfortably. Don't ask. “Everyone gets ten bucks to spend. Make sure you stay inconspicuous. Let's go.” We arrived in Chester half an hour later. When we split up, I watched Aaron walk into the grocery store and looked over to my left and saw Jake and Clif walk into a shop that sold pranks. I need to check my tent tonight. Kate didn't come with us since she can't hide her tail because it's always on fire, but she can keep it from burning things, but the fact remains that most people's butts don't glow . Kate asked me to buy her a game-boy game with her ten dollars, though, so I walked over to the nearest video game store. When I walked in, I saw that there were ten or twelve people inside, which made me a little nervous. I found an old Super Mario game, paid for it, and left, without saying a word to anyone or even opening my mouth. I walked over to a clothing store and saw a hat in the front window. After all, the old black hat I've been using to hide my ears for the past year was wearing out, and it was getting a little small on me. “Hey, I haven't seen you around here before.” I spun around and saw a brown-haired boy I recognized as one of the people in the game store. He looked about a year younger than me. “Did you just move here?” he asked. “No, I'm just passing through.” “Oh, that's cool. Your family lives in an RV?” I had no idea what an RV was, but I agreed with him anyway. He seemed to be studying my face, then pulled his hoodie back, as if he was considering taking it off, but decided against it. “You seem... different than the other girls around here.” You don't know the half of it, buddy. “Oh, I never even introduced myself!” he said suddenly. “My name's Andrew.” “I'm Sarah.” “Hey, do you want to go get something to eat?” Andrew asked.
