Chapter 9. We walked across the sand dunes till we reached a country road and decided to go to the left as the right took as back to the sea. Kevin had dumped Miss Sheely, s handbag into the sea as we approached the beach so he was feeling happy and safe. Liz was enjoying the scenery on view both sides of the road whilst I carried my heavy sack holding on to it for dear life. Teddy was muttering in Gaelic to himself. A few cars passed by and we tried to hitch a lift, but the French being French just drove by. The French are like that; they don't help other people just themselves. We decided to rest for the night in a wood and get some sleep, we were all hungry and nobody had any cash in their pockets. We all chatted in English, even Teddy. Liz and I found a soft spot to settle down, as did Kevin and Miss Sheely. Teddy found a rock, and slept on it. He likes being between a rock and a hard place, it reminds him of home on the forum. Liz went to sleep. I wanted to protect her from any knowledge or complicity in my crime of robbery. So I had decided not to tell her, now she was asleep she had no knowledge. And I opened my sack to see what booty I had. Cash was what I needed the most. I had to separate the jewelery, I knew what I had with the bonds, but the rest had still to be sorted. I got most of it out of the sack and separated it into piles. The cash came to over £20,000. The jewelery I could not value as I was not a jeweler just a thief and benefit fraudster, with the odd cd pirating. I normally relied on my fence back in London for valuations so it wasn't worth my time guessing the real value, not yet anyway. I had a hundred plus credit cards but they were useless for cash machines, as I didn't have the pin numbers, but the odd one I could use in shops or restaurants that only needed a signature which I was good at forging. But they are still worth cash to the underworld, so I bundled them for sale later. I put a £1000 into my pocket, and the rest back into my sack. I think my bank in Switzerland will be happy to do business with me I thought. Then I tucked my head onto Liz's shoulder, moving as close as I could to her body, and kept her warm through the night, as I slept happily beside my girl with the golden leg. We all woke early in the morning just after dawn, Teddy frozen like a log, but Kevin and I still warm from the bodies of our women, as they were likewise. There is no blanket better or warmer, than that of a female body, and that's the truth. I suppose it's the same for women, but I don't really know, as I have never slept with a man. Well not since my ex wife Doris that is, who looked like a man, she was the spit and image of big daddy the wrestler. I thought back to that marriage, god what a mistake. Luckily for me she ran of with a chimpanzee. I never reported her missing to the police, as I was terrified they may find her and bring her back. Its funny how we can laugh at our mistakes when they are long gone, yet stand in perpetual fear of repeating them. The way I see it now is, pick a cracker of a girl, and if it doesn't work out, it was fun anyway. But leave the nightmares alone, life it tough enough without adding to it. I'm hungry Liz whispered gently to me, not wanting the others to hear. Don't worry princess as soon as we find an eating-place you can have what ever you want, I reassured her. Have you got any money then micky she asked, well Liz I lied, and my pocket bulging? I can cash my unemployment cheque here as we are in Europe and it's valid here under E-U rules. Just like back home she said, I can do that in any state in the union. Yes its great being part of the united states of Europe I agreed with her, being careful to shield that news from the others, as we all hate Europe, except for Spain were we can hide from Scotland yard. Except teddy of course, he still wants to invade England with French soldiers, and would like any other country that did that. Thinking of Scotland at the same time, and wondering if Joy and barbarian were still having their battle in the middle of the sea, and if they had managed to get to land yet, and if they had, was it the USA, or Scotland. In all honesty I told myself, I just did not know who had the strongest will. If it was equal, they will die in the sea going around in circles. We walked a couple of miles along the road getting bypassed by French cars, not one stopping to help us. The French talk a lot, brag a lot, and do nothing when push comes to shove. They are after all, sophisticated. Click here to read the rest of this story (473 more lines)
