A story about a woman coming into her own. She's letting go of her past. And finding that she likes the woman that is emerging. This is Chapter One.

Chapter One

Molly hated weddings. She didn't understand what all the fuss was about.
People spent a lot of money buying clothes to wear. The bride spent a
small fortune on a dress she would only wear once. Not to mention all
the food and flowers. Then, there were people to find for attendants
and their clothes. To Molly, it was just too much hassle and money
spent. All for one day's worth of happiness. A day you wouldn't
remember even detail even way. What was the use, in Molly's opinion?

People should just live together. The couples were going to buy a house
anyway. They were going to pay for it together. Why waste money on a
piece of paper? What was it going to change in the long run, besides
the woman's last name? Why was a piece of paper so important?

If the marriage didn't work out, what happens then? Well, then you have
the cost of the divorce. You spilt everything down the middle. One of
you were going to lose the house you helped pay for. You lost all the
furniture that you both bought. Or you have to come up with the money
to buy the other one's share. And in some cases that could be just as
much money, if not more, then you spent on the wedding. At least that
was Molly's opinion.

Molly thought this wedding went beyond the extreme. The only reason she
was here today was because of the groom. Jake, the groom, was Molly's
only brother. She had raised him after their parents died. She had been
there for everything in his life. How could she have missed his
wedding? Even if Molly still didn't approve of his marriage.

Jake was marrying the woman of his dreams, or so he said. Shelia and
Jake had been dating for two years. But they had known each other all
their lives. They had gone to school together. Even though Jake was
older than Shelia. They parents had been the best of friends. Shelia's
parents owned the farm that bordered Jake and Molly's ranch. So they
knew each other pretty well.

Shelia had a different way of thinking from Molly. She wasn't going to
just live with Jake. She wanted the ring on her finger. She wanted the
piece of paper. She wanted his last name. She wasn't

Going to have children out of wedlock. She felt that if Jake loved her
enough, then he would marry her.

She was right too. Jake did love her enough. He was ready to prove that
too. He was marrying her in front of their neighbors, friends,
relatives, and most of the parish government. Even the Governor came to
this wedding. It was the biggest wedding the parish had seen in a long
time. But, that wasn't the ridiculous part to Molly.

Jake and Shelia both had full-blooded St. Bernard dogs. They wanted to
breed them together. So, they thought it would be cute to marry the
dogs together with them. It was because of the dogs they were together.
So, they wanted them to be part of the ceremony. That way they would be
just one big happy family.

For Molly, it was the stupidest thing she had ever heard. Who in their
right mind would make dogs a part of a wedding? Molly wouldn't have
ever thought about it. It was embarrassing to her and Jake. What would
people think? But, she didn't want to make any more waves. She had done
that too many times in the planning of the wedding.

“You may kiss the bride.” The preacher announced bringing Molly out of
her thoughts.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, let me be the first to introduce to you Mr. and
Mrs. Jake Matthews. And let's not forget the other happy couple here
today. Mr. and Mrs. Hooch Matthews.” The preacher smiles as he held up
the hands of the bride and groom.

Molly smiled and clapped along with the other guests. She watched the
bride and groom make their way up the aisle with their dogs. Jake had
Shelia's dog and Shelia had Jake's. Molly was glad that part was over.
Maybe in time, people would forget how goofy her brother was. Molly
could only hope that it was true.
