This is a story about a girl who has to deal with hope and despair in such way that not many know what is going on. Would appreciate feeback, greatly. The format isn't how I originally had it, but eh. Close enough!

“I just don't understand Jessica,” he sighed.

When does he ever? He's only a Psychiatrist after all.

“Well, Dr. Slater,” I said, “I'm just a classic case of good girl gone
bad.”

“Yes, but I don't understand why!” He said exasperated.

‘Fine,' I thought, ‘I'll throw him a bone.'

“You really want to know?” I asked, “I'll tell you why. You see it all
started with this guy, Sam.”

************************************************************************

Sam and I had known each other since we were little. We were the best
of friends. When High School came around, we started dating. Everyone
thought of us as the perfect couple. I was the happiest girl in the
world. I had the greatest boyfriend a girl could wish for, good grades
in school, and a fantastic relationship with my parents. Then she
came.

Her name was Amber Nicka. She was the Bad Girl, the one all the guys
wanted to tame. As soon as she arrived, she set her eye on Sam. I
should've known he'd succumb to her wiles sooner-or-later, but I was my
usual trusting self. Thus, 2 weeks after she'd appeared, I found them
going at it behind the school. You can imagine my shock and dismay.

I refused to become cold to Sam, though. So, after we ‘official'
broke-up, he and I remained close friends. He confided that he and
Amber would do drugs and drink weekends away together. ‘Mostly drugs'
he said, ‘but the hint of alcohol made the high all that much better.'
I warned him to be careful, but tried to be supportive.

One night, though, the two of them went too far. So far, that it landed
Sam in the hospital, unconscious. Amber's parents confiscated her and
left Sam all alone in the hospital, what with his parents out of the
country and unreachable. As soon as I heard, though, I took the car
and raced over. I stayed there for two days straight, not even
bothering with school. Through those days, I was always waiting for
him to open his eyes and see me and recognize the girl he truly loved.
However, on the third day, Amber came by.

“Sorry I took so long.” She said to me, “I didn't want to ditch school
these past few days. I'll take over, you go ahead and take a break.”

So I left and got some coffee. I came back and walked into the doorway
just as Sam's eyes opened.

“Amber?” He asked. “Yeah, it's me,” she said, “I've been here all
along.” “I'm glad.” He said.

I left them. I heard through the grapevine that Sam had been shocked
that I'd never visited him, once he'd woken. Apparently no one
believed that I had been at the hospital the entire I had been out of
school, they all just assumed I was sick. Eventually, he called.

“Hey, Jess,” he said. “How've you been?” “Doesn't matter,” I said. “How
are you?” “I'm getting better,” he said. “I wanted to let you know that
Amber and I are going to rehab together.” “I'm happy for you,” I said.

Soon after, he left I became very sullen. I got into fight and fight
with my friends and family. It finally got to the point where I simply
gave up on caring.

“Which led to this,” I said to Dr. Slater.

“I'm terribly sorry, Jessica,” he said.

“Yeah,” I said, “Everyone always is.”
