Leia has Visions, Pegasus is freed. | |||
Chapter 4 "Captain Shelby, Commander Scott and I have a proposal to get the ship free in minimum time." "I'm all ears." "We propose sending a thermal pulse through out the Structural Integrity Field system. If the SIF is still functional in the rockbound portion of the ship the thermal energy will liquefy the rock on both sides of the hull to a depth of 2 millimeters per minute. If we use the Phaser's on the Aldrin to clear the rock forward of the nacelle pylons the Pegasus's RCS thrusters should be able to pull her out of the wall facing." "Like shelling an oyster! How long will this take?" "To make the phaser cuts without damaging the nacelles will take 14 days." "That will be acceptable, we have 65% of the saucer cleared of rock and functioning and we have started transferring R2's to the 30% of the secondary hull which is not encased. Replicators are working overtime manufacturing repair parts as we move further and further into the rock." "Your crew are all functioning well together Captain Shelby." "They should be Data, for the whole trip out here I kept them locked in Holodeck 4 simulating this mission. They had time to get used to the idea's and concepts then, and the R2 members who joined the crew have made things run even better and faster." "I'm very glad to hear that Captain." Luke piped in. "Yes Luke, these R2's are amazing." Meanwhile at the edge of Federation space. "Captain Picard the Hyperdrive has performed exactly as advertised, 127 ly per every hour in Hyperdrive." "Astounding, Geordi this will change everything!" "That isn't all Captain, the 26 R2 units we have aboard have the maintenance so well under control that all systems are being maintained at a 98% of maximum theoretical availability. My engineering teams are thrilled with there integration into the crew and I find that I must recommend that at our next starbase layover we could reduce the engineering staff by at least 26 and still maintain this level of operating efficiency." "Commander Riker, how is Lt. Commander O'Leary fitting in as Number Two?" "She is working hard to replace Data and doing better than I had expected any humanoid to do, but you know what proud warriors the Andorians are. She has set out to prove she can handle the position and so far she has proven herself right." "Excellent. How far is it from here to Voyager's last know position?" "Acording to the debriefing obtained in the Prometheus incident she is 35,254 ly from this position, located in this region of the Delta Quadrant." Riker answered pointing at a galactic map. "Are we agreed on the best course to set?" "Yes sir, Marina is right, if we fly due galactic north for 70 hours then fly in the correct direction for 11 days we will be in the general location." "And your convinced this is the best way to travel Will?" "Yes, without a doubt. We don't have the detailed astrophysical maps we would need to travel at Hyperdrive without stopping at least every 6 minutes to scan ahead. At that rate it would take us about a full year to reach Voyager, though we could follow a clear path back in about 2 Click here to read the rest of this story (278 more lines)
