"As useful as I am sure that astrophysical data would be to the
Federation Will, I have no intention of delaying this Search and Rescue 
any longer than absolutely necessary. Follow O'Leary's flight plan." 

"Aye Captain, straight up it is." 

And so the journey began, three days near enough to travel due galactic
north 12,000 ly, then skim through the empty vastness in parallel with 
the plain of the Milky Way before  reversing the process to drop down 
pausing each hour to scan for Federation sensor signals. Finally a 
sensor wake was detected, a wake that only Voyager could have left in 
this part of the galaxy. Using the wake as a guide the Enterprise moved 
in, dropping out of Hyperspace 20 ly behind the Voyager. 

"No doubt at all Captain, that has to be Voyager ahead, the sensor scans
are Federation frequency and are certainly from an Intrepid class 
scanning system." 

"Thank you Marina, calculate a microjump to put us 1 ly astern of
Voyager." 

"Calculating now Captain." 

"The look on Kathryn's face will be worth the wait I'm sure Captain." 

"You were together at the Academy Will?" 

"Oh yes, she was tops at the Academy. She got her dream when Voyager was
announced as her new command, and now I get to rescue that dream for 
her." 

"Really," Commander Troi piped up, "How thrilling this must be for you."


"Course calculated and laid in Captain." Marina reported, keeping Will
from responding to Troi with more than a hurt look. 

"Engage at Hyperdrive." 

9 minutes later "Captain we are being hailed." 

"Source Tuvok?" 

"A ship has appeared approximately 1 light-year from here behind us." 

"Drop to Impulse. On screen." Captain Janeway was stunned to see the
bridge of the Enterprise 1701-E form on her veiwscreen, complete with 
crew in Star Fleet wartime uniforms. 

"Hello Captain Picard here. The Enterprise has been assigned to escort
Voyager home." 

"Captain Picard, I assume this means the Doctor's report got through to
the proper people." 

"Indeed it did Captain Janeway. And with the new drive systems we can
install on the Voyager we can have you home in 3 weeks from today." 

"Captain, that would indicate a drive capable of over 1 light-year per
minute." Tuvok reported almost instantly. 

"Actually Commander?" Picard paused 

"Tuvok." Tuvok supplied 

"Actually Commander Tuvok, the drive functions at just over 2 Light
years per minute, 127 light-years per hour to be precise. However to 
travel at such a rate of speed requires a very detailed map of the 
region you are traveling through to avoid encountering anything with a 
sufficient gravitational potential to deactivate the Hyperdrive. To 
avoid that possibility we will be heading due galactic north for 12,000 
light-years, then fly along the plane of the Galactic ecliptic to a 
position due north of Earth, where we will descend back into Federation 
space." 

"Fascinating, are you sure Voyager can be adapted to it?" 

"Please forgive Mr. Tuvok his skepticism Captain Picard, we recently had
an encounter with aliens who decided to use us as experimental subjects 
and my crew is still recovering from the effects. We have been through 
a lot in the last 3 years." 

"Well let me assure you and your crew Captain Janeway, the Hyperdrive we
have aboard for you can be easily powered by an Intrepid class vessel. 
In fact only the Intrepid, Sovereign, Defiant and Prometheus classes 
are being fitted right now, studies to fit other vessels were under way 
when we left to find you." 

"I see, Why don't we have our engineering crews get together to work out
the details Captain Picard?" 

"We now have your precise location plotted Voyager, see you in 27
seconds." Picard said having seen the green light on the navigation 
computer come on. 

"Engage Hyperdrive." 

27 seconds later Enterprise appeared, 20,000 meters off the stern of the
Voyager. 

Meanwhile, back in the Alpha Quadrant. 

"A little later than we had planned Captain, but Pegasus is clear and
free to navigate." 

"Thank you Captain McDonnell, I was beginning to think I would loose my
mind staring at the cavern out of the veiwscreen." 

"I understand you're R2's are re-manufacturing your ship piece by piece,
is that correct?" 

"In a sense. What they have been doing is slicing out chunks of the ship
with a light saber type cutter and feeding them into a replicator on 
deck 4. The replicator breaks down the mass, which already contains the 
precise ingredients of the parts needed plus basaltic rock. The 
replicator then recreates the parts needed plus a mass of black 
obsidian from the rock." 

"Ingenious, the Replicators are using the same elements so no quantum
transformations are needed but the resulting sections are exact to 
specification." 

"Yes, and one of the R2's came up with the whole plan. I am confident
you could leave and we would be fully repaired in 3 more months." 

"I agree with your estimates Captain, however we have been ordered to
have you home in one month so that Star Fleet can judge the results of 
the test." 

"One month it is Captain McDonnell, but don't be surprised if we manage
Warp speed by that date." 

"With what I have seen already Alexandra, I won't be. Galaxy out." 

"Captain McDonnell, if you are going to stay here another month I feel I
must depart for Earth. I came out to make sure your Pilots had 
sufficient training in the X-Wings, they are as good as I can make 
them. I also have to make some more arrangements back at Earth and see 
that our treaty arrangements are being followed." Luke pointed out. 

"It has been a pleasure meeting and getting to know you Commander
Skywalker. You are free to leave whenever you wish and I am truly 
grateful for all the assistance you have provided us on this mission." 

"I too have enjoyed it Captain, may the Force be with you." A few
minutes later the X-Wing piloted by Luke Skywalker went hyperlight and 
flashed away towards Earth. 

"Number One, there goes a great man." 

"Agreed Captain. With the technology that he has given us and the
training to go with it I predict the Dominion war will end in our favor 
in 3 months or less. Undoubtedly Starfleet scouts have been mapping a 
hyperdrive invasion route to Dominion space." 

"Yes, the wormhole is faster than Hyperdrive, but it has two fixed
endpoints. With hyperdrive we will be able to mass our ships in 
offensive fleets and strike from any direction deep behind enemy 
lines." 

"The newer Star Fleet designs will all be capable of 127 ly/h speed and
the majority of the remainder can achieve 2/3rds of that speed, more 
than 1.41 light-years per minute. At warp 9 it would take us 8.16 hours 
to transverse that same distance, an increase of approximately 490 
times in apparent velocity." 

"The only thing that worries me Data is, what will we be facing when it
comes time for us to uphold our end of the bargain?" 

"We will have three months to prepare ourselves sir, but one thing is
clear, the Galactic Empire and Commander Skywalkers Alliance are galaxy 
spanning civilizations. From the little we know they have had 
Hyperdrive for at least 25,000 years giving them a full galaxy of 
resources to draw upon. I have wondered why two such immense 
civilizations would be interested in the amount of war material and 
manpower the Federation could add to their own." 

"As have I number One, but now that our civilizations are in contact we
really have no choice, either we make allies or enemies, and from what 
Luke told me I wouldn't want the Galactic Empire as my Ally. They 
destroy habitable world's for the shear terror factor involved in it, 
they enslave sentient races and practice a very ethnocentric view of 
both non human and non organic life forms." 

"Indeed Captain, even the Borg would not destroy a world to no good end.
If they so desired they could have bombarded Earth in either or both of 
there invasion attempts, and yet they did not, seeking to conquer, not 
destroy." 

"The Borg, heaven help us if they get Hyperdrive technology! They are
sufficiently bad enough with Transwarp!" 

And On Dagobah in a galaxy far far away. 

"Master Yoda, now that we have gotten back in contact with the Rebel
Alliance we know that no one has heard from Luke since the escape from 
Hoth. Now you tell me he was on his way here when he disappeared?" 

"Things you will see, through the Force, when you are at peace, when
your mind is at rest. Friends long dead, things that happen even now 
and things which have not yet occurred. What have you seen Leia?" 

"I saw Luke and Ben talking about this place, then another time I saw
Luke and R2D2 on a strange ship, a ship with three sections spreading 
from central cylinder, with the name Galaxy painted proudly on its 
top." 

"It is the past you see, Luke has traveled far further than we expected
when I called him here, and new friends he has made in that far off 
place." 

"Then he is safe?" 

"Always in motion is the future, his ultimate fate I can not see. Allies
he has joined in a war I see, but further I see not." 

"Why do I feel so strongly for Luke and his Future Master Yoda?" 

"Search your heart and you will see, your brother is he, and strong in
the Force are both the twins of Anakin Skywalker and Princess 
Amadalia." 

"Yes Master." Leia said and settled down to meditate. Soon visions were
coming to her, visions of her birth, and a second birth, and memories 
of how sad her mother had been before she died. The a new vision filled 
her inner sight. 

****** *Captain Sisko, the Dominion and Cardassian fleets are massed
dead ahead right on the edge of the Delalt system! They outnumber us 
two to one!* 

*Time to Bunt! Signal the X-Wings to attack in 12 minutes, that's 1-2
minutes from the first engagement.* 

*Acknowledged Captain, X-Wings standing by!* 

*All Ships, this is the Defiant, Fire at will, repeat fire at will!* 

****A huge swirling battle begins to take shape, small ships, Defiants,
Jem'Hadar attack ships, Peregrine fighters, even Shuttlecraft and 
Shuttlepods swirl and dive through the ranks of larger ships, firing, 
taking fire, killing and dying! A shuttlepod fires its type IV phaser 
against a Cardassian attacker and is destroyed by a heavy phaser beam, 
while nearby a flight of 4 Peregrines line abreast fire there 
mini-Photons into the Cartesian, overwhelming the shields and exploding 
it like a balloon! A Jem'Hadar attacker rams a Galaxy Class starship, 
completely destroying decks 1, 2 and 3! The ship staggers but quickly 
recovers with control shifted to the Battlebridge on Deck 8 and fires 
two full spreads of torpedoes from both forward and rear torpedo tubes 
destroying a damaged Galor class Cardassian and draining the port 
shield's on a Jem Hadar battlecruiser. Nearby the Defiant swoops in and 
rakes the undefended portside of the Battlecruiser, but is hit in turn 
by heavy fire from three Jem Hadar attackers flying in tight formation. 
All around ships are dying, but despite the odds the Federation is 
giving as good as it gets. Just as things are looking hopeless a 
Klingon fleet decloaks, having moved into firing positions while unseen 
they have selected out every damaged Dominion and Cardassian ship and 
rake them with heavy disruptor fire quickly shifting the odds in the 
favor of the Federation/Klingon alliance. Surviving Cardassian and 
Dominion ships turn to flee and the final solution is implemented, 288 
X-Wings drop out of Hyperdrive in a massive V formation lining the 
escape route and pounce! By this time nearly all of the smaller ships 
in the fleeing force have been destroyed, allowing the X-Wings to 
concentrate there fire on the surviving Battlecruisers of the Dominion 
fleet. Surprised and dismayed by the sudden appearance the Dominion 
forces go to Maximum warp to flee, leaving there slower and weaker 
Cardassian allies to stand alone. Within 5 minutes the surviving 
Cardassians have surrendered and the Klingons are gleefully sending 
boarding parties to take charge of their ships. 

*********** With a sudden start Leia returns from her trance. The
feeling of Triumph by the Federation and Klingon ships is unmistakable.
