2 hearts crossed, one was taken... | |||
Second Verse “LYNN! (Continuous knocking) LYNN! YOU IN THERE?” I've been standing outside Lynn's apartment door for at least 10 minutes. This was not like her; I even called before I came over about half an hour ago. It was one of those nights when our assignments required extra computer expertise. On nights like these, I'd just gone over to her place and help her out with her stuff, one of the many things I did that most people would find weird: I helped people without asking for any apparent reason. Lynn told me on the phone that she had a friend staying at her place momentarily but it was fine that I came over and besides, she was definitely in need of help to change a photograph of a live goat into a computer illustrated image. So there I was, standing there looking like a complete idiot with the auntie from the opposite apartment hand-signing me to shut up and bugger-off. Where the hell was she? The door swung opened, finally, and there stood Lynn looking like a doctor who was just called out of a hospital emergency room, minus the robe and the cap. She tied her hair up, there was sweat dribbling from her forehead and the word “frantic” was written all over her face. “Bad time, Kay... can you come tomorrow?” “Sure, what's...” “Tomorrow.” The door was about to slam shut when suddenly someone surprised Lynn and pulled it open instead. “Who (Burp) is it? Oh, HI!! (Taking a quick squinted look) Don't I know yo...” The girl bended to her front and before I knew it, puked right in front of me with her left hand gripping the door knob and her right gripping my T-shirt: the whole scenario ran threw so fast that my brain went on instant-replay just to decipher what had transpired. From the distance of less than 30 centimeters, I could smell the alcohol in her breath and actually, recognized her before her bending over. It was... you. Lynn and I instantly went on impulse with our arms automatically stretched out and held you by the shoulder. You took about half a minute to clear up, then we brought you in and sat you down on the couch in the living room. Lynn ran and got some tissue paper to wipe your mouth clean a little while I ran into the kitchen to get some warm water, during which you were still kicking and waving your hands a little. “You got a wet towel or something?” “Yeah, I'm getting it.” After 2 more intimate encounters with the toilet bowl, 2 sips of warm water and a few minutes of the “wet-towel-treatment”, you finally calmed down, and slowly fell asleep, still muttering some words that probably sounded Egyptian. We sat on the floor next to the couch, cooling off a little and doing some calming down ourselves. Lynn finally looked like she was breathing normally again, I could see the signs of worry slowly fading from her face. I turned to you and took a moment to have a good look at the girl lying before me. A little less than an hour ago I was coming out of your stolen boyfriend's car listening to how unimportant it was to know your name while thinking about the absurdity of the entire situation. And then here you were, sleeping quietly less than 15 centimeters away like a resting tired angel, your face a little flushed, your hair a little messed-up, and your eye bags hinting signs of overworked tear glands. “So what's her story?” At the time it never crossed my mind to tell Lynn that I knew you (or did I?), not that I didn't want to, just never came up in my head at all.
