THE ELECTRIC CUPID Copyright 2001 by Jennifer Green "Imagination rules the world." ~ Napoleon She had answered an Internet personals ad. "Single white male, early 30's, looking for one interesting, attractive woman." There was something about how he was only looking for just one. They had swapped emails a few times, then he sent her a small photo, it just showed his face. He was handsome, smiling. Short brown hair and eyes. She sent a photo back that showed off her slender body, short blonde hair and blue eyes. They started to write more frequently. She was 34, and worked in a large office as an administrative assistant; he had his own computer consulting business out of his house. Email To: Henry Date: 5-23-01 Re: Reply Do I believe in love at first sight? Now that's an interesting question. Not having been in love, other than that one time I told you about, I really don't have enough experience to go by. I suppose it's possible, but really, now, isn't it just wishing/attraction/availability/fate really all there is to love anyway? It's all brain chemistry, if we feel that way about someone, somehow a total stranger becomes a member of your family. That's love, and yeah, I guess it could happen at first sight, but it's never happened to me that way. I heard about this couple once though, who met, three days later he asked her to marry him, they did soon afterwards and lived happily ever after for the rest of their lives. I think it's more important to ask if it's possible to love someone exactly as much or the same way as they love you. I have a theory. There is always a loved one and a lover. In my relationship, the one that ended up breaking my heart, I was the lover, he was the beloved. Which is why it hurt so much to break up. In my friend Cassie's marriage, you know, the one with the Seven Year Itch, she says she's the loved, and he's the lover. So she is constantly looking, or tempted to look, for someone she can really love, head over heels, think about him all the time, dream about him, not be able to stay away from him type of love. Gotta go, I think I hear my boss coming. Cindy To: Cindy 5/23/01 I think it is quite possible that one person always loves more than the other. If we fell in love, assuming I would recognize the symptoms, I think I would love you more than you loved me. To: Henry 5/24/01 Reply How can you say that? You have no idea how much love I am capable of giving. To: Cindy 5/24/01 Reply It's not got anything to do with you, you are perfectly capable of giving all the love in the world. It's me.
