Sarah starts a new job, but things don't go to plan, so she walks out and goes home, but things take an unexpected turn. | |||
Does it stop raining? That was what Sarah wanted to know as she made her way to the bus stop, clutching her umbrella tight so the wind couldn't blow it out of her hand. But as soon as she got to the stop a car came rushing past, leaving her getting wet after the car had driven straight through a puddle. She waved her fist at the driver. She couldn't go to work with the state she was in, so she went back home to change, even though she knew she was going to be late. And the worst part - the work which she was going to, happened to be her first day. What an impression she was going to make. ‘What are you doing back here?' her mum asked as soon as Sarah got in through the front door. ‘And why are you soaking wet?' ‘Oh, mum, it's all going wrong. I made it to the stop in plenty of time, but this car came driving straight through this puddle on the side of the road and that is how I got wet,' ‘'Go and get changed. I'll ring your boss up and tell him what has happened. No girl of mine is going to get the sack on her first day in a new job.' When Sarah came back down the stairs, in clean clothes, she smiled at her mum and said thanks. Then her mum told her to wait by the car. She was going to give her a lift into work, which was a relief to Sarah. She didn't fancy going through all that again, and it was still raining heavily outside. Once Sarah had got into work, she was called into the office, and boy, was she dreading it? But to her surprise the manager was sympathetic. Then, while he was talking to her, she happened to look out through the window at a car in the car park that looked familiar. ‘Who's that car outside?' she asked her boss as she pointed a finger towards it, ‘Oh, that is my nephew's. You'll be meeting him later.' ‘She couldn't wait. She was going to have a few words with him. She recognised the car, especially with it having a personalized number plate. And it was a brand new Mercedes. Nobody in the area where she lived could afford to have a car like that, so it had to be him who had driven through that puddle and soaked her. When she got into her place of work, this nervous girl came up to her. ‘Excuse me, are you Sarah?' she asked, acting even more nervous. ‘Yeah, that's me.' ‘Well, the boss wants a word with you. Knock on the office door and walk straight in.' Wanted a word with her, did he? She wanted a word with him. ‘What's the meaning of being late on your first day?' He asked her as soon as she had set foot inside the office. ‘Excuse me,' she said to him. ‘You heard!' ‘I was late because some idiot drove straight through a puddle and soaked me. I had to go home and change, and for your information, my mum phoned up to say I was going to be late. And if that is how you are going to speak to me in future, I might as well go home, she said, before turning to make her way through the office door. After Sarah had left the office, she went to get her jacket before heading to the bus stop. She was not staying in that factory a moment longer. Once at the stop, she waited for the bus to arrive. She was fuming, to say the least. She had met some arrogant people in her time, but he was the worst. She was going to find herself another job, one well away from the place she had just walked out of. Click here to read the rest of this story (78 more lines)
