PART 3 - LAST CHAPTER

TWELVE

In his secret room buried deep in the sprawling Fleet Head Quarters on
Earth, Fleet Commander Erwin Tyler grinned with malicious pleasure. He
lit one of his thin, black cigars and settled back in his seat to watch
the film replays on one of his wall monitors. Every scene had been
captured through the Android's eyes.

From where she was standing he watched as Blaze had been beheaded whilst
sitting on his white pony. He saw the head tumble to the ground, the
blood spraying into the air then his body crumple to the sand.

Tyler grinned as he saw the stunned expression on Kane's face.

“And you thought you had me beaten!” he muttered softly. “No-one beats
Erwin Tyler! No-one!!”

Next to go was the Android and Tyler laughed as he saw the shocked look
on Kane's face when her arm came off. He'd flicked that switch himself
from a console in here, all set up by the brilliant technician who'd
programmed her. The next switch along detached her other arm when he
flicked it.

Then the coup de grace – her head! He had flicked a third switch on the
Android console and this had caused her head to de-circuit, de-wire and
fly off.

The monitor went blank for a minute or so then Kane was on the screen
looking directly at him.

How he savoured the absolute pure hatred on his face!

He listened to their conversation again, enjoying every word, especially
the part when he told Kane he'd soon be travelling there to load up a
Falcon with gold, diamonds and pearls!

“For six days Kane built his paradise,” he muttered, “and on the
seventh, Tyler destroyed it all!”

He laughed as the screen went blank and he switched it off. Swinging his
leather boots up on to the work top, he smoked his cigar and thought of
the fabulous wealth on the planet. And only he knew of it! And Frank
Kane had given him it all!!

With the unimaginable wealth he would soon acquire, The Inner Council
could be bought and sold and he would then be well on his way to
becoming the most powerful man on Earth...and consequently the known
Universe.

Only one more job to attend to and he was looking forward to this one.
He held up his wrist radio and contacted the Suspended Animation Room.

“It's Commander Tyler,” he said. “Stand by to bring out Kane's clone.
I'll be there in five minutes.”

*****

Kane was having a final beer in the beach hut. He was sitting on an
upturned box near the doorway, staring out at the bay.

The planet had somehow sensed the deaths and was now mourning. The wind
was howling in from the sea and large waves crashed on to the shore.
The rain was hammering down.

Kasabla was crying.

He almost was himself. Christ, it could've been so good. So fucking
good. The planet had given them everything they needed and the three of
them had been happy. And so had Kasabla.

The planet had waited all this time for company and now this - death. He
shook his head. Jesus, the human race fucked up everywhere it went.

Sinto gone, Miller gone, Corthan gone, Muslik gone, Blaze gone, Sarah
gone – he still thought of her as Sarah. All for nothing. No – all for
