PART 3 - CH 11 | |||
ELEVEN They had chosen the far corner of the curved bay to build their beach house. There was a large, spacious, grassy area there, just beyond the palm trees. They would have fantastic views of the bay, the small island and further round the coast where it was rocky, with white waves breaking. Kane and Blaze had worked all morning, cutting wood in the nearby forest, transporting it back to the Ship in the Pod then trimming it in the workroom before transporting it back to their site. Sarah had found some thin sheets in the stores and she had stayed on the Falcon, making some curtains for the beach house windows. Not that they would be needed much. The climate remained pleasantly warm with a soft sea breeze and the only rain seemed to fall during the night, gently watering the planet. Kane wiped some sweat from his face and looked at their work. A pile of cut timber lay stacked on the grass and the next step would be digging foundation holes for the house's framework. It would be hard work but he and Blaze were enjoying it, the two of them working well together. He glanced over at him where he was stroking Zara. He was stripped to his shorts and he was beginning to take a light tan and his slim frame was beginning to toughen up. He looked at his own chest and arms – he was taking a tan himself and he could feel his already firm muscles becoming stronger. He looked down the bay to the beach hut and saw Sarah waving to him. He waved back. “Lunch has arrived!” he called to Blaze, who was still stroking Zara. “Great!” he said. “I could eat a hor--, I mean I'm starving!” he quickly corrected. Kane grinned and pulled on his t-shirt and they headed back to the hut, Blaze bare-chested and keeping Zara at a walking pace. “We can have another swimming lesson later if you've still got the energy,” Kane said to him. “Sure,” Blaze replied, grinning down at him. “Then the three of us can go out after dinner and harvest some wheat.” They reached the hut and Blaze dismounted, leaving Zara cropping on some grass amongst the palm trees. Sarah had prepared some fruit and some of the chicken and roast beef and they sat on a blanket and ate, Kane telling her how the work was progressing and she seemed happy about how their house was taking shape. “I'll have a rest in the hut after lunch,” Kane told Blaze, “then we'll get back to work.” “Okay old man!” Blaze said, grinning. “I'll take Zara for a ride along the beach.” “What about you?” Kane asked Sarah. She smiled. “Oh I'll just have a rest beside the old man before I get back to finishing those curtains.” Kane grinned. They finished eating and Kane drank the last of his orange juice. “Any more?” he asked. “It's thirsty work out there.” “Sure,” she replied. “There's more in the hut.” Click here to read the rest of this story (167 more lines)
