Watch what you eat. Go easy on those herbs and spices. You may not want to share Marc's nightmare. Maybe you do. | |||
SEASONINGS Maybe it was the lasagna that disagreed with him. Too much seasoning. That night, Marc's dream of flying like a bird turned into a nightmare. Fright woke him. He was shaking with fear and. . .and he was hungry! Little flashbacks of skydiving without a parachute made him burn the oatmeal and toss his morning coffee down the drain. Not too good for a stockbroker who is expected to make precision decisions, juggling vast sums of money for anxious clients. You had to be a hawk at this business, with an eye for every opportunity. The nightmare really bothered him. In Marc's kitchen, the spice cabinet was full. Its labels proudly read: POULTRY SEASONING CHICKEN SEASONING TURKEY SEASONING DUCK SEASONING GROUSE SEASONING QUAIL SEASONING SPARROW SEASONING LARK SEASONING TURTLEDOVE SEASONING NIGHTINGALE SEASONING PHEASANT SEASONING STARLING SEASONING PIGEON SEASONING BLACKBIRD SEASONING HAWK SEASONING CROW SEASONING RAVEN SEASONING ALBATROSS SEASONING BUZZARD SEASONING VULTURE SEASONING Of course Marc's collection wasn't complete, but he was proud of it anyway. If you looked closely at the ingredients on the labels, you would see that every bottle contained the same spices, only in different proportions: Garlic - Paprika - Onion - Pepper - Savory - Coriander - Black Pepper - Cumin - Sage - Thyme - Marjoram - Salt - Monosodium Glutamate - Sesame Seeds - Celery Seeds - Poppy Seeds = Ginger - Dill - Nutmeg - Anise - Benzadrine Proprionate - and a pinch of Sugar. Marc's taste for fowl began to develop when he saw Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds". He felt keenly the malevolence of those birds. When he was eight years old, he tried to pet a goose and received a sharp peck for his efforts. That night he ate Chicken Fricassee and felt the bliss of sweet revenge. Long after the goose was forgotten, Marc began to crave the taste of larger birds, like roast turkey. He still pursued that blissful feeling of sweet revenge every Thanksgiving.
