Jordan continues his journy to Deaths Dark Embrace, Will he escape its clutches? Or will he slip into the Eternal Sleep? | |||
The Embrace of Deaths Arms I can feel the soft warm breeze blow across this village warming the hearts of everyone. The night was calm and easy, stars shinning bright in the sky. There was no sound, no motion except for the gentle touch of the warm breeze. I stand in the doorway of the hut I was privileged to slumber in, peering out into the night sky. Its so strange how even in the middle of war something so beautiful can still be present. Reaching into my pocket I pull the photo I took from my house and stared at it for several minutes. I had to wipe the tears from my eyes as I glanced upwards towards the heavens holding the picture at my heart. I gently kissed the picture then slipped it back into my pocket wiping the remainder of the tears. I shut my eyes and let myself slip away into my memories, my wife approached me from behind and wrapped her arms around me holding me gently. “Its all going to be ok honey, I promise, I am waiting for you” tenderly kissing my cheek with her rose red lips feeling as if it sent shocks through my body. I opened my eyes to see I was back into reality, depression hit me for a brief moment. I shook it off not allowing myself to crumble again. In the distance I noticed that one of the other huts door was open. A sudden fear gripped my body tight and I reached for my pistol holstered at my hip. Slowly I came down from my step and walked cautiously to the other hut. The night was so quiet I could hear my heart pounding from behind my chest. My footsteps quietly trudging the rough dirt of the earth, the crisp air that filled my lungs came freely refreshing my body. As I became closer to the door things seemed to be awkwardly quiet, I peeked into the door to see Adam sitting up in his chair read a book or something with his back facing to me. “Oh my god, Adam, you scared the hell out of me man, what are you doing?” a short pause and I got nothing but silence “Adam, can you hear me, man? Hey, ADAM!” I shouted in hoping he would turn around startled because he could not hear my voice. He did no such thing. I quickly approached him to notice that Adam didn't look too well. I placed my left hand on his right shoulder causing him to fall to the floor with a loud thud. “OH MY GOD!” Adam was dead, I jumped back horrified causing Adam to fall onto his back causing something to make a “tink” noise “wha----” an explosion filled my vision sending everything flying outwards, my world went up in flames sending me soaring out the window with a blazing speed. I slammed down into the dirt creating a small crater and I jettisoned out into the lake. The flames were quickly extinguished from my body as I sank to the bottom of the deep dark water. I could not feel my right arm, which made it very difficult to swim. I kicked with my legs as hard as I could and pulled with my left arm. I could see the image of a blurry moon outside the ripples of the dark water, I pushed and pushed as hard as I could to reach that salvation and it wasn't getting any closer. I could feel my lungs gasp for air, I choked on a large gulp of water. Fear clenched my heart and soul as I sank even further struggling to hold my breath. My lungs gasped again for air but this time it let in a huge gulp of water causing me to coke again. I grabbed my throat in hoping I could close it off not allowing any more water in. My vision began to blur, I was losing sight of my salvation, all hope of reaching it was lost. I am going to die, I could feel the life get sucked out from my lungs as I sank deeper and deeper into the deep dark abyss that separated my salvation from me. My eyes began to shut, I started to lose feeling in my body, I could no longer struggle, peace was bestowing on my soul. The eternal rest was seeping into my heart. My eyes shut. I knew no more. The peaceful calm warm breeze still blew across the village, though it was morning. Not a sound was being made in the burning rubble of the village. The last refuge for the survivors has been razed to the ground. Dead bodies littered the ground, blood stained the dirt between the bodies and the earth. The stench of death hung heavily in the air, Sorrow and tears filled the air around the village. The enemy soldiers snuck into the village the night before and quietly eliminated many and also setting traps. Nobody survived that brutal attack to the village. The soldiers left the village leaving all the burn in the ashes, the soldiers left the village leaving broken dreams and lost memories behind them. “honey, I love you, open your eyes” a beautiful voice filled my heart as if I was actually hearing my wife speak to me. “honey, please, open your eyes”. I opened my eyes slowly and a huge white light burned into my eyes bringing holy hell into my soul. “It is not yet your time, you have not yet fulfilled your purpose” a deep dark voice pierced through my body and brought the fear of god into my life. The white light faded revealing a bright blue sky and soft white clouds. I could hear the chirping of birds all around me, the soft sweet aroma of flowers nestled around my body. I slowly sat up revealing a shoreline and open clear teal blue water sparkling in the sunlight. I reached up to my head and wiped the sweat from my forehead. I took a deep breath in, how good it felt to breathe air instead of water. My body works better on air, I found that out. I gazed up into the sky to the heavens, “Not yet baby, I am still fighting” I decided to lay back down and rest for a bit before venturing into life again. I slipped away into a slumber. Tweet
