Being called a mistake prompted a woman to re-exam her life when dealing with the emotions of that word coming back to haunt her.

Consistently Wrong

~

It all started when I was conceived.

My mother was accused of

having an affair.

Turns out it wasn't true.

But a theme began.

~

After Vietnam

I become the “spoils of war.”

What once was

was never to be again.

For reasons only he knows

I was tossed aside

to live a life without

my other parent.

~

A boy charmed me.

Told me I was the princess

I always wanted to be.

He got what he bargained for.

I was left to pick up the pieces.

The word haunted me

throughout my teenage years.

~

Got married young.

Was divorced five years later.

Found out it was all a joke.

He only wanted to get laid.

Had children to raise.

So I made one of many.

Married again

for all the wrong reasons.

Lived a life full of them.

~

The fates took a turn.

Or so I thought.

I was going to be treasured.
