Too small to help | |||
l was about 8 yrs old. My father had past away when l was a baby. My uncle Ross was the closest thing to a father figure l had since he was family and l knew he loved and cared for me. He would often visit and put on hockey l remember being baffled at how he could find something so boring so entertaining. He would be cheering or grumbling scrunching up a little paper in his hand. One night Ross took me for a walk to the corner store. To get the usual candy and his lotto tickets. Then he stopped and told me to wait for him l watched him walk up to four figures in the distance it looked like they had something in their hands. Then l saw my uncle on his knees l felt a rush of fear, anger and helplessness come over me. l wanted to run to him and tell them to stop hurting my uncle but l remembered what my uncle said to wait so l stood there crying under the street light then after that l don't remember.....black out.
