Keep to your plan and everything will be just fine. | |||
THE BIG BOAT The steam whistle of the enormous ocean liner could be heard for miles from the boarding area. A ships crew member in coveralls pushed his way through the passengers on the crowded deck above and made his way towards the ship's gangplank. “Mamma is the boat about to leave without us.” “It's a ship silly girl,” Sally's Mom said with a smile. “That is the warning to start getting on board but we have plenty of time to say a proper good bye to your aunt Alice. You know I would not gamble on missing this ship. In four days, we will be sitting on the porch at the New Jersey farm watching the fireflies in the moonlight and listening to the crickets talking to each other.” “How will Papa know we are coming? How will he know where to meet us?” “He has been getting my letters so he knows we are coming. He always reads the sailing and arrival schedules and newspaper obituaries. For insurance Alice will send a cable telling him the ships name and what day to look for us. Do you have the cable ready Alice?” The deep bass steam whistle of the enormous ocean liner could again be heard for miles from the boarding area signaling for all passengers to keep boarding followed in short order by a longer blast that was the final warning to everyone else “all ashore that are going ashore”. Alice kissed Sally on both cheeks. “Yes, yes, no worries little sister I already have a draft written. Short and sweet it reads; maiden voyage new Titanic wife and child to arrive as planed.” Tweet
