I got an email which sparked a fire in me. Let me know what you think. Do you agree with me? Or do you disagree? I eagerly await your comments :o)! | |||
Fractured Nation Under God I'm going to fly by the seat of my pants on this one because the thoughts are just running in my head. I received an email which has gotten me to thinking about something. I'm going to be talking about religion, so if you would rather not read this I would click out of it now. First off. I am a Christian. I believe in God and His divine powers. I was raised Baptist and later became Apostolic, it's a form of Pentecost. I believe in One God and I call Him Jesus. I believe Mary was a virgin. And I believe Jesus died on the cross for me and everyone who come before Him with a humble spirit and in reverence for what is right. Now having said that, doesn't make me any better than the next person. I have sin in my life because I was born human. I'm far from perfect, will be the first to admit I have flaws. I don't always do what is “right” or what can be considered “good.” I've lived my life my way, which okay is wrong but that's something else all together, and I don't regret anything I've done in the past. Would I like to change something? Well Duh! I said I was human. I'm not as spiritual as I used to be. Heck I'm not as spiritual as I was last year at this time, much less of when I was on fire for Christ. I've done wrong, and will do so again if given the chance. I stand up for what I believe in even though I'm a Christian. I think gays and lesbians should have the same rights as I do. I think abortion is up to the woman who is pregnant, UNLESS she uses it as a form of birth control. I support gun laws, but I'm also a gun owner. I live in a Bible Belt state and disagree with our legislators. I support tougher child abuse laws, because I'm a victim of it. I'm for laws against domestic abuse because I was once one. I don't think we need to be a religious nation to be religious. And I think the journey we make with Christ is personal and private. What I don't agree with are the things which make me an outcast in my own family. I don't believe there should be a law where God is on our money or in our schools. I don't agree there should be religious artifacts on our nation's capital buildings. I don't think there should be discrimination against religions. I don't think there should be discrimination about anything because we don't know all the answers. I agree to an extent with some things though. I agree we need some form of religion to make ourselves feel better about the world. Whether that is the God, I know and love, or if it's another isn't my choice to be made. Once you start generalizing religion, is where we begin to have trouble with it. Baptist are going to believe their way is best. Buddhists think theirs is best. Judaism has been around since before time. So have Roman Catholics. You have Pentecostal, and the off shoots of them. You have Lutherans, Mormons, and all the rest of the religions. So who gets to decide what is best for you? We can't agree if there is one God or if there's three. So, how in the world, are we going to decide which one to put on our money and in our pledge? Just because it's right for some doesn't mean it's right for me. How many agree? How many disagree? This I have to hear so leave your comments. © January 28, 2008 by Lori Tweet
