Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story male or female, could claim title. Little did that matter as neither he nor Maec ever married. Even his Mother, S'Lesh, still living, would need to seek a new home. Maec was killed in a raid that was arranged by the Praetor at the beginning of this top-secret operation. Unbeknownst to his brother, by order of the Praetor himself, Turvans' ship sat safely cloaked in the Neutral Zone observing and recording everything. Above all else, he was forbidden from taking any action himself, no matter what transpired before him. In glee he watched Maec destroy four Earth outposts with The Empires' newest weapon and with the help of its newest stealth technology, a cloaking device. He watched as his brother steered his ship to return home with word of the ease of the operation. He watched as an Earth ship intercepted him and a high stakes game of ‘cat and mouse' ensued. He watched, as one by one, his brother used every trick in his arsenal to destroy the Earth ship and return home. With each trick and deception, the Earth commander was able to detect the trap and out guess Maec. Finally, Maec managed to outwit the Earth commander and render his ship vulnerable. He watched as Maec set to fire his weapon on the Earth ship one last time believing the vessel was no longer able to defend itself. One more time the Earth commander showed that HE was the superior as HIS ship came back to life and fired on Maecs' ship, rendering it useless. Turvan sat helplessly as his brother destroyed his own vessel rather than have it captured. He waited until the Earth ship departed and then returned to inform the Praetor of his brothers' failure. How he hated HIM, that Earth commander! Maec was the greatest Commander ever to live and serve in the Empire. He should have had no trouble in dispatching that Earth ship. Nor should he have had any trouble evading it. Somehow, that commander knew where Maecs' ship was when cloaked. All tests indicated that the cloak rendered ships undetectable as long as radio silence was maintained. Upon his return he held his prearranged meeting with the Praetor and found out why his brothers' ship could be detected. The Praetor believed that his greatest Commander would still find his way home even with the handicap that the he had given him as part of a much larger ruse. Now the Praetor called on him, Turvan, the other great Commander of the house, to lead the next phase of this bold and deceptive operation. It was dusk now and there was a welcome cool breeze carrying the smells of the many floras of the mountains, easing the heat of the day. He raised his robe enough to look at the scar of the wound that the mu'chat nearly killed him with. He drew a deep breath through his nostrils and once again closed his eyes. He wanted to remember this moment as long as he could, for he may never see, nor experience it again. But it was time. They had been waiting for him for nearly a full cycle. He pulled a small communication device from his pocket and quietly issued an order. Shortly thereafter, a hum was heard and Commander Turvan dissolved into the thin air. Next: Chapter one. Tweet
