You finally meet that perfect person but that wedding ring, however meaningless everyone says it is, is still there. | |||
The Meaningless Wedding Band “And if you ask nicely,” Jane gave Charlotte a wink, then turned her smile back to the older man behind the counter at the snack bar, “or flirt a little,” Jane made her mouth pucker into a pretend kiss, “Ed will make you an extra special coffee.” “Hello,” Charlotte extended her hand to the elderly gentleman who was obviously blushing, “my name is Charlotte,” she hesitated then added with a genuine smile, “Charlotte Townsend, the new receptionist up front.” “Well, glad to make your acquaintance, Miss Townsend.” Ed was still blushing from the teasing that Jane had done. He always enjoyed Jane's teasing but he just couldn't help feeling uneasy when this beautiful little twenty-something siren came on to him, even when he knew it was only in fun. But this new young woman was really something special and he just couldn't seem to let go of her soft hand with those long perfectly shaped fingers. “And, I hope you like coffee and come back often.” “Well actually,” Charlotte realized that this guy was holding onto her hand much longer than a simple greeting would require and pulled it back, “I usually do my coffee before work at home.” She didn't want to seem like she was being short with the poor old guy, so she quickly added, “Morning person, you know. I'm always up hours before time for work.” “Well,” Ed spoke as the two gorgeous young women had already turned to go on down the hallway, “I've got some very good sandwiches and subs if you eat lunch here.” Ed couldn't help admiring the drastic differences between the two women. Jane had, until now, been his favorite in the dealership. She couldn't be more than five feet tall but her figure was perfectly proportioned for her height. Jane had the most flirtatious green eyes he'd ever seen and her natural flaming red hair simply added fire to her flirtatiousness. Now this new, Charlotte, was quite a contrast to Jane. She was tall, very tall, fantastic legs and breasts that could only be described as perfect. Her long black hair and beautiful brown eyes seemed to make her alabaster skin seem even whiter. “I might just try one,” Charlotte turned and noticed that Ed's eyes were taking in her and her new friend's legs and behinds and decided to add, “but I usually bring my own lunch.” “Ed's harmless, Charlotte.” Jane almost whispered to Charlotte as they went on down the hall to the next person that she would introduce Charlotte to. “He's been married to the same woman for forty or so years and he just seems to enjoy flirting with us young women. And,” Jane grabbed Charlotte's arm and leaned into her a little as she tilted her head up to attempt to whisper, “I heard from one of the older women in the office a few years ago that he can do more than just flirt.” Jane grinned broadly as she added, “And I understand he did it very well.” “But,” Charlotte shook her head and didn't smile back to let Jane know that she wasn't amused, “he is married, isn't he?” “Sweetie,” Jane smiled but let her new co-worker know that she was being serious, “this is the car business. You're going to be around a lot of salesmen, some married and some not, who flirt and more. And,” Jane hesitated before adding, “some are married and some not.” “Are you suggesting?” Charlotte's white face became quickly flushed as she stopped and turned to her new co-worker. “I'm not suggesting anything,” Jane had also stopped in the hallway and shook her head back and forth as she looked up at her new friend, “I'm just saying that salesmen all have their own way of keeping their attitudes and spirit up for their next ‘up'.” “Up?” Charlotte's mind was racing for what Jane meant by this word. “Oh,” Jane grinned from ear to ear at Charlotte and could only imagine Click here to read the rest of this story (353 more lines)
