See the aftermath after the masked man pushes Allison down the stairs!

11. Racing the Clock

Connor woke dazed and dizzy. He looked at the gun by his side, and
wondered if Allison was safe. He struggled to his feet amidst the
dizziness that threatened to overtake him. “Allie?” no answer. “Allie,
where are you?” still no answer, panic began to fill his heart. Ice
cold fear burrowed into him, and he could feel something terrible had
happened. Connor stumbled and turned on the flashlight. He was about to
ascend the stairs when he saw her, lying motionless at the foot of the
stairs. His heart pounded for her and their unborn child as he knelt
beside her. “Allie! Allison? Can you hear me, sweetheart?” Connor felt
for a pulse, she had one but it was very weak. “Allie, wake up for me!
I'm going to get you ...” tears began to cascade down his cheeks,
forming words took difficulty and he felt as if he were moving in slow
motion. He dashed for the cell phone and dialed. But there was no
service, he cursed and slammed the phone down on the coffee table.
“Allie, open your eyes, darling! Are you hurt?” she began to stir and
he looked at her more closely trying to assess her condition. “Connor,”
she said weakly. “Are you hurt, Allie?” “Something's ... wrong with the
baby!” she said beginning to sob. “It's all right, sweetness, I'm going
to get you to the hospital.” “Connor, are you okay?” she asked through
her tears.” I'm fine, don't worry about me.” “Connor, Charlie pushed me
down the ...” she started to lose consciousness again. Connor sobbed as
her eyes began to close. She was slipping further away from him.
“Allie! Stay with me!” he shouted, she opened her eyes and stared at
him. “Connor, Charlie pushed me down the stairs.” “It was Charlie?”
“Yes, I love you, my love.” “I love you too, Allie. Don't move,
sweetheart I'll be right back.” Connor went to retrieve blankets and
towels. When he returned, Allison had slipped into unconsciousness. He
cursed as he gently wrapped her in a blanket. She was trembling in
spite of the summer heat. He gently lifted her and placed her in the
front seat of his car. During the drive to the hospital, he talked to
her. “Allie, stay with me! Don't leave me, sweetness. I love you so
much! You have our baby to raise, and we have a future together! you
have to stay with me! Fight like hell, Allison!” Connor hung on the
horn as he blazed through red lights and stop signs. He had to get her
to the hospital. As he pulled into the hospital's emergency entrance,
his fear began to increase. Allie hadn't regained consciousness since
they'd left the house. Connor scooped her up and ran screaming into the
ER. Help! Someone help me! My wife's pregnant and she fell down a
flight of stairs!” two nurses rushed to Connor's aid. Allison was
placed on a stretcher and wheeled into a small cubicle. They signaled
for Connor to follow. “When did this happen?” “About ten minutes ago.”
“Has she been unconscious the entire time?” “No, she was conscious, but
then she slipped into unconsciousness again! She hasn't regained
consciousness since we left the house! I took her here, she said
something was wrong with the baby ...” “Sir, calm down. We're going to
do everything we can to help her all right?” one of the nurses whose
name was Jill said. “Please help her!” Connor stopped when he saw
Allison's eyes flutter open. “What's her name?” Jill asked. “Allison.”
Jill stepped over to Allie and took her hand. “Allison, do you know
where you are?” “The hospital.” She said weakly. “Please help my baby!
I was pushed down the stairs!” “Okay, we're going to get a fetal
monitor so we can see how you and the baby are doing.” Allie nodded.
Jill and the other nurse left the room. “Allie, I love you, sweetness.
You just hang in there.” “Connor, I'm so scared!” she began to sob,
Connor wiped her tears away and took hold of her hand. “It's going to
be all right, honey. The baby's going to be just fine.” He knew her
concern wasn't for herself, but for the tiny life she was carrying.
“Connor, promise me something.” “What?” “That if something happens to
me, you'll save the baby.” “Allie ...” “Listen to me, my love promise
me!” “I promise that I will do everything I can to save you both. Are
you hurt?” “I don't think so.” A pain shot through her, she grasped
Connor's hand tightly. “Oh God!” “Allie? What is it?” “Connor, I'm in
pain! I'm having contractions!” she was on the verge of tears when Jill
and Molly returned. Molly was an older nurse and her touch was gentle
as she placed the fetal monitor on Allison. “She's having
contractions.” Connor said frantically. “How many minutes apart?” Jill
inquired. “They just started I'm not sure. Oh ...” she grabbed Connor's
hand as another contraction tore through her. Her face was contorted in
pain, and Connor's heart was breaking. He had all to do to maintain his
composure as he held her hand. Molly looked at the fetal monitor and
froze. “She has a placental abruption. That's why she's been in and out
of consciousness, she's losing blood.” Jill gasped and went to retrieve
the blood pressure machine. “What's that?” Allison asked frantically.
