A night at the opera changes the life of a couple. | |||
The date is December 21, 1996, and the city is New York City. Eve saw an ad in the paper for some opera, and she wanted to go. I, of course, did not, but Eve tried to talk me into going. What it came down to was let Eve go by herself, or go with her to protect her. I really did not want Eve to go by herself, so I went with her. What happened at the opera we would never forget. We arrived at the opera hall at six-thirty p.m., and snow started to fall. Eve had to go to the bathroom, because of her condition, and I waited in the lobby. Eve left the bathroom, and walked over to me. She gave me that everything is okay look (she had given me that look several times), and I grabbed her hand. Then we entered the auditorium, and Eve picked a seat near the middle row. As always Eve sat in the seat at the end of the row, so she could get out and go to the bathroom. By now it was six-fifty, and the auditorium was about half-filled. The curtains opened and the opera started. I was bored about thirty into the opera, and I tried to keep myself from falling asleep. Eve seemed to like it, and I felt something hit my hand. The first thing that went through my mind was she was crying, and I turned to look at Eve. Her skin was very pale, her hair was drenched in sweat, sweat ran down her face, and she was gasping. Eve stood up and ran out of the auditorium, and I started after her. Eve rushed into the bathroom, and I stopped at the door. It was the women's restroom, and I could not go in. But I could not stand here while I knew Eve was in pain, so I rushed into the restroom. I heard Eve throwing up, and I walked over to the stall Eve was in. Eve was on her knees, and she had a hand on the toilet. I walked over to the sink, and I grabbed a paper towel. I soaked it then I went back to Eve. I wiped off the sweat and throw up that was on her face. Eve finally stopped throwing up, and I picked her up and carried her to the car. On December 24, Eve found out she was pregnant, and we were both very happy. And on December 25, I proposed to Eve, and she said, “Yes.” Tweet
