What Runs In Our Blood (standard:poetry, 265 words)

A poem about a family relationship that will forever haunt my choices and how I try to raise my family.

When you call me a slut, you haven't a thought Of the damage you do to
me You say that's it love and motherly caring But you're only
destroying me The things that we ay in our love and concern Could cause
whole cities to die and burn You don't bat an eye as you call me a
whore Cursing my heart to your words How can you say such brutal things
All in the namesake of family You seem to forget words carry a price So
heavy and thick it can never be bought Forever more, I'll carry the
wounds From the nasties that you burdened me Yet from all this, you'd
think I would learn Keep my mouth shut as you instruct But in more ways
than one I shouldn't follow in your footsteps Plunging the dagger Where
I know it'll hurt best Watching those I love be slashed again From the
words that I delivered Out of righteous anger When in silence, only I
would burn Damned to pain by all of our blood's love But only me to
suffer However, I can't do it, I can't learn And I bite and tear where
ever I can Doing my best to make the blood run This is our family's
love and concern? When you call me a slut, you have no idea The damage
that you do to me And yet I too inflict the same wounds That your love
is sharing I guess it's true, what they say It runs in our blood, thick
and nasty Yet we call it love
