Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story The coroner said that the liver temperature put his death at about twelve hours, and there doesn't appear to have been a struggle. I will know more once I get him back to the morgue." "Are you about finished?" Randy asked the coroner. "Its all yours," she replied. MJ is the coroner and medical examiner. Randy and his team busied themselves with taking pictures of the crime scene, and examining the wooded area. The crime scene was on a rural stretch of road, down an embankment. The area is a dried up creek bed with maple trees, dogwood trees, and pine trees scattered throughout the area. "Did you find any ID on the body?" Randy asked the coroner. "No," MJ replied. Mac went to talk to the group of four women who found the body. "Are you the ones that found the body?" Mac asked "Yes we are," Debbie said. She was about five feet two inches with long red hair and green eyes. Laura had blonde hair and blue eyes and was about five feet three inches and weighed about 160-pounds said, "We were hiking in the woods along the creek bed when we came up on the body. Camille, pointing to a lady with brown hair, was the first to see it. As we got closer, we saw it was a body. That was when Pam dialed 911." Mac asked the ladies a couple more questions and after getting their names, phone numbers, and address, he let them go. The crime scene was being scrutinized over every square inch; the body was placed in a body bag, loaded in the coroner's vehicle, and taken to the county morgue. It was at the morgue when MJ discovered a trace of a white substance on the corner of his mouth and swiped it with a cotton swab. MJ swiped under the fingernails, ran a comb through his hair to see if there were any foreign substance, and took pictures of the body noting any discrepancies such as bruising, scratches, or any type of wound that may lead to the cause of death. Once the physical examination of the body was completed, she cut into the body cavity to examine the organs. It was afternoon when Randy entered the morgue to get whatever information MJ had to offer. After leaving the morgue, he went to the DNA lab and the evidence room. Then he called a meeting with his team to discuss the case, such as what evidence had been found, where they're going with the evidence, and how to implement the data they've collected. "Thomas, what do you have in regards to the trace samples retrieved from John Doe's clothing?" Randy asked. "I found a long strand of red hair that didn't provide any DNA; I also found dirt that is consistent to the area where he was found. The leaves are of a maple tree that is prominent in the region. There was a receipt in his pocket from a Mexican restaurant off Gillespie Street. The receipt was dated the day before yesterday," Thomas said. "Was there anything that could identify him?" Randy asked. "No. I only found the receipt; I'm going to check at the restaurant to see if anyone could remember him or who he was with." "Hamilton, did you find anything at the crime scene?" Hamilton, pulling her red hair to one side exposed a tattoo of a cluster of grapes on the back of her neck, responded, "I found footprints that didn't match our John Doe leading to and from the road. There were no signs of being dragged or of a struggle. I was able to tell that he did fall from the road and rolled down the hill to the creek bed." "Was there a match to the footprint?" Randy asked. "As a matter of fact, the print belongs to a woman with a size eight shoe. The tread is similar to that of an Easy Spirit tennis shoe." "Steven, were you able to find out anything on the swab MJ took from John Doe's mouth?" Randy asked. "The white substance found on John Doe's mouth was cyanide. The finding does coincide with that of the other four victims. His fingerprints weren't in the database. I'm waiting for DNA to come back," Steven said. "Okay team, continue working. We need to go to that restaurant and find out if anyone remembers our John Doe and if he was with anyone. It is imperative we find this person. Let's get to work," Randy said as if he was preparing his team for the second half of the game. When Randy returned home, he saw he had two messages. The first message was from Laura saying she wouldn't be home until eight. Randy reached for the phone but froze when he heard the voice of the second message say, "I saw you at Joe's Restaurant today. As I walked up to your table, someone joined you. Better luck next time." Then the machine said there were no more messages. "Who was that?" Randy asked aloud. Disregarding the message, he dialed Laura's number but was disappointed when her machine picked up. He left a message saying that he got her call and sorry he missed her but would try again later. Before hanging up, he left his name and number. The next day Randy and Thomas went to the restaurant and showed a picture of a man to the waitress. The waitress identified him as Marty. "What happened to him?" The waitress asked. "We're hoping you could help us with that," Thomas replied. "Do you know who he was with?" "She was about five feet five inches with long red hair and green eyes," the waitress said. The waitress's nametag said her name was Lee. "When was he here last?" "I think it was a couple nights ago." "Did you notice anything else about her?" Thomas asked. "No. If it wasn't for him waiting nearly an hour for her, I probably wouldn't have paid that much attention." "Did you talk to him?" "A little, he said that he was waiting on his date. He said he was nervous because it was a blind date. They've only talked on the phone a few times and decided to meet," Lee said. "Thank you for your help." The following day Steven was in the lab reviewing some evidence from the crime scene when he found it. Mixed in with the other trash from the crime scene was a wadded up piece of paper. When he unfolded the paper, he saw the name Marty Klein was written in bold thick letters. Steven took it to Hamilton. "I found this with the trash from the crime scene. Can you see if there is anything else?" Hamilton took the paper and placed it on a static electricity conductor where she covered it in saran wrap and rolled a metal rod over it. When she finished, she lifted the saran wrap up a little to sprinkle some black dust on it. Hamilton removed it from the conductor and examined it closely. She was able to see a phone number. In Randy's office across the hall she said, "Steven found this paper in with the evidence from the crime scene. It has Marty Klein's name with a phone number." Randy took the paper and called the phone company to get the address. The operator told Randy that the number was assigned to Debbie Fleming at 6817 Winthrop Street. Randy called Mac and told him to meet him there. Mac sent two uniform officers to Debbie's house. With a search warrant in hand, they arrived at the residence. A woman in her thirties with long red hair and green eyes answered the door. "Hello," Mac said. "We meet again." "Hello detective," Debbie replied. "We have a search warrant to search the premises. We need you to step out while we search your home." Randy and a couple of technicians walked passed them. Before Randy went inside, Debbie told him that she was sorry for not being able to meet him for their date. Randy asked her what she meant. "I called your apartment and left a message asking if you wanted to meet for drinks on Friday. I guess this means our date is off." Mac had Debbie taken to the car while Randy and the team of forensics searched the place. After about fifteen minutes, Randy stepped out of the house and showed Mac Marty Klein's wallet. Mac read the Miranda Rights to her and had her taken to the station. Randy and the forensic technicians continued to search the residence for evidence when one of the technicians showed Randy a nightstand drawer that had more wallets. At the police station, Debbie explained that when she was a child she was brutally raped. When she was older, she was gang raped by a group of fraternity boys who got off because their dads were prominent figures in the community. "I only went after those who raped me." She said as if reasoning why she killed five people. She explained, I placed an ad in the personal section and waited for them to contact me. Sure it took a while and I did met a few really good guys that way but I was looking for one thing and one thing only. I wanted the rich college boys who raped me. When I met the perverts who raped me, I put something in their drink when they weren't looking. So when they were too intoxicated to drive, I offered to take them home. Instead of driving them home, I drove to a deserted road on the outskirts of town. Then I'd walk them to the side of the road where they stood to vomit and I offered them a drink of water. So they thought; the water was laced with cyanide tablets. When the cyanide took effect, they fell down the embankment." She finished her confession by telling the detective that she would drive their car to their apartment and cleaned it out. Then she called a cab and went home. After the confession, Mac had her taken down to booking. "What was she talking about back at her house?" He asked Randy. "I'll explain later. It isn't anything important," Randy said. Later that night as Randy sat in front of his computer, the phone rang. He waited for the caller ID to display the name. Seeing that it was Laura, he picked up the phone. The voice on the other end said, "Hello, Randy? This is Laura." Tweet
