Click here to read the first 75 lines of the story “I'm so... so sorry Steve. You were a great guy.” “Huh?” He asked as he stared at me in confusion, momentarily forgetting the finger, and then looking past me with a nauseating look on his face. “No, please n...” He didn't finish pleeing. We never thought it would come to this. Steve never saw the white metal chair that Bill was holding, coming towards him. He also never go to see it slam into his head either. As Bill bashed our neighbors seemingly lifeless body, I had to turn away, nauseated. I was never much for the bloody part. I don't know how I lived through the beating that I underwent from the neighbor that I thought I knew. I lay on the well manicured lawn, barely alive, losing a lot of blood. I heard voices. “It's only been two weeks since the last one, Jo...damn...Bill. And another thing, the rose bush is getting crowded,” I stated with as much sarcasm as I could muster at the moment, “I'm getting a little worried, won't people start to get suspicious?” “No. I mean, who's going to miss dear ole Steve here?” She gave a little chuckle and agreed with him. That was all that I could hear as I fell into the deep vast pool of neverending blackness, my murderer's laugh. Chapter 1 “I can't believe you got me into this!” I giggled trying on some cute clothes in the dressing room of the town's one and only inexpensive shopping stores. “Well, I thought since you had so much trouble getting a date, and keeping one, I thought a blind date might be different,” Kimberly said with a little sincerity and sarcasm. Kim is the best friend a young woman could have, all-in-all. I just need to remember that sometimes. Even though she knows how nervous I get around new men or when I just get thrown into new situations, she still signed me up for a damned blind date. I just don't do well under pressure! “Well Kim, it surely is different, but I don't know what he is like. I mean I don't know what he looks like, his taste in women, or what likes in general. It says in his description tall, dark, and handsome, but online that could mean 5'1, fake tan from a bottle, and a huge nose with glasses perched on it that scream, ‘Revenge of the Computer Geeks'. I mean for real, he could be a murderer or something and I would have never known it. Oh my gosh, I'm so paranoid.” “Sarah, don't worry, you'll be okay. Not every guy is Ted Bundy. Besides, that is why it is called a blind date. Anyways, you're 21, he's 23, he ‘ought to be cute.” “Okay, but if he does turn out to be a murderer and kills me, I'm sure as hell coming back to haunt you for all eternity.” We both kind of laughed at my statement, and then our thoughts wandered off in different directions. I opened the door and stepped out to look at myself in the dressing room mirror and I totally fell in love with myself. I don't care how conceited I sounded safe inside my own mind, but I looked good. I had on a short blue denim mini-skirt and a pink halter top showing off the tan and slight pinkness from the sun that had developed over the time that Kim and I had spent out in her swimming pool. My hair was down in loose, brown ringlets skimming my back just below my shoulders. “Hey, Kim. What was his name again?” I asked dreamily. “Uh...John I think.” “I like his name. I really want his to go well, I hope he likes me.” I said still admiring my reflection in the mirror, yet feeling a little insecure. Kim stepped next to me and looked into the mirror at me, “Who wouldn't? Don't worry, you look beautiful, but if you really want this to go well you'd better get going or you're going to be late. I'll take care of the clothes. Have fun!” “Thanks. And I'm sure I will. Later!” Sarah said, giving her best friend a hug as she ran from the shop to her blue Chevelle sitting in the vacant parking lot. Everyone must be at the carnival tonight, she thought to herself glancing at maybe five cars going down the main street in the town, heading in the direction of the city, where the carnival is at, where John's waiting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I walked up to the entrance gate of the carnival. I hate that I had to leave my car two blocks down the street. I'm here to meet a woman for a date in a few minutes, I am a bit early. I don't really do the whole blind date scene, actually this is the first one I've ever been on. I'm supposed to meet her at the big carousal at the center of the midway. I can admit it, I am a little nervous, but equally anxious to meet her. In her description, she is 5'6, around 132 pounds, has deep brown hair, and sky blue eyes. She sounds so very beautiful, and I really hope that every bit of it is true. I think her description was the depiction of the perfect woman. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not one of those shallow men who run from a girl because she has muscles or a bit of acne. I like to think of myself as a very down-to-earth kind of guy, and I like the same qualities in a woman. Though lately, I haven't been very lucky with the ladies, and I don't really know why. I have the great charms, the great looks, personality, but apparently not the words. I was searching the web on really boring day at work during my break, and I saw this ad for free blind date hookups. I thought, you know, that I've nothing to lose. I mean, I think of myself as a pretty handsome man. I've got short, wavy brown hair, green eyes, just south of six feet, a naturally tanned, toned physique, and muscular 225. I have always taken care of myself, although I have an inactive desk job. I just like to keep in shape. Working out gives me energy and a lot of self-confidence. Well, here goes. He took a deep, soothing breath and took a seat at the entrance of the ride on one of the well worn benches to wait for his date. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sarah entered the carnival grounds and went straight to the carousal to meet her date. I'm so nervous, for one thing, I have no clue as to what he looks like. I never received a description, at least I didn't. Kim probably kept it because she didn't want me to change my mind. I don't want to be walking up to these strange men asking if their names were John, that would be so embarrassing. What were the chances of her getting a great-looking guy any way. I mean, come on, common sense tells you that no hot guy would need help getting a girl, especially from some cheap online dating service. Stereo typically, you would imagine a really dorky, ugly guy needing help with dating. But on the other hand, if he is good-looking, he must be thinking the same thing about me. Let's show him how wrong he is. Just be optimistic. She went straight to the ride and looked around for a man around twenty-three. She spotted a very, very hot guy sitting on the bench by the carousal entrance. She approached him. “Hi, I'm Sarah.” At her introduction, he rose off the bench, obviously surprised. “Oh! Hey. I'm John, how are you doing this evening?” He said, trying to smoothly hide the smile that was creeping onto his face, but failed miserably. “I'm fine, you?” “Same.” He said cooly. Whoa, this girl is smoking! He thought to himself. “Since we are here, you want to ride the carousal?” She asked seductively. “Sure, let's go. It's about to start up.” They ran to the line and John paid for their tickets. John ran ahead and hopped on a beautiful white stallion, (his favorite animal, but would never tell a soul). To his surprise, Sarah climbed up onto the back of the same horse and put her arms around his waist. John turned and looked at her and his heart started pumping a mile a minute. Oh thank you, God! This is going to be a great night. She is really into me, he thought to himself. She just smiled and relaxed a bit. She felt safe being around him, so she rested her head on his back and enjoyed the gentle raising and lowering of the ride's gears. After they finished riding the other rides and had talked a bit, they made their way to John's car. “So, will you call me later?” Sarah asked shyly like he would say ‘no' or something. “Definitely! Do you want me to take you home?” he asked as he opened his door. “No thanks. My car is parked just over there.” She pointed to her car parked next to the curb. “That's your car? Can you handle that much car? It looks like too much for you.” He said being humorous, yet intrigued. “I can handle it, believe me. Besides I like them muscles. They give a little kick to everything.” John smiled at her flirting and got into his car waving her good-bye. “I've got to be the luckiest guy on earth. She loves muscles, cars, and brains. This rocks!” He said aloud to himself as he drove off. Tweet
