No Words (standard:poetry, 99 words)

There are times when you are simply lost for words...

They asked grand words and phrases of me

They wanted eulogies and high poetry

But I am struck dumb

Rhyme deserts me

And the rhythm is gone

You are gone

And try as I might I can't push the words out

I know that through the years the thought of you will summon tears

Like the smell of grass carried softly by the breeze

You are gone from me

And I have no words

So I stand here with tears

But with smiles as well

But no fine words to end

Other than these: 'you were a true friend.'
