A Kittykat exercise...

I'll never forget the first time Mom and Dad trusted me to stay home
alone at night. They left our german shepherd Rainbow in the house to
protect me and left me with orders to stay in the house.

The first hour went well, but then I got restless. I decided I would
make cookies. Dad's favorite cookies were the ones with real honey in
them so I sat the honey on the counter, got out the flour and other
ingredients, and made cookies.

I heard the rattle of the screen door and peeked out the door to see who
was here. The porch light showed only Match huddling close to the door
shivering. It wasn't fair, the dumb dog got to be inside while my cats
sat outside and froze!

Obeying what my parents had said, I didn't go outside, but opened the
door a little so I could pet Match. Match, seeing his opportunity to
get inside where it was warm, made a quick dash into the house.

Rainbow saw the invader dash past and immediately chased it streak of
yellow. I ran after Rainbow with broom in hand threatening her, “If you
hurt one hair on Match you'll regret it!”

Match jumped on the kitchen cabinet and knocked the honey on the floor.
Rainbow nipped at Match and Match jumped into the puddle of honey
trying to escape. Rainbow saw this as the perfect opportunity to attack
Match. I quickly swung the broom to chase Rainbow away, but in the
process hit the fixture with three light bulbs sending glass flying.

Wouldn't you know it, before I had a chance to clean up the mess, Mom
and Dad drove in the driveway. Entering the house Mom demanded to know
why the lights in the kitchen were off. Dad demanded an explanation why
the cat ran outside covered in honey.

My explanation? With the pathetic tears only a sweet little girl and
create, I ran into my Daddy's arms, snuggled close to his chest, and
replied, “I didn't go outside, but I opened the door a crack to pet
Match and he ran in and Rainbow tried to kill her so she jumped on the
cabinet and knocked the honey over and I tried to get Rainbow away with
a broom but hit the light bulbs and I know I'm grounded for life, but
I'm telling the truth and that is why the lights are out and there is
honey on the cat.”
