A poem about a man, and a woman who briefly enters his dismal garden home. | |||
A Visitor in my Garden Someone passed my gate last night. I felt her shadow there. Some visitors are cruel, malicious. I told myself, beware. I sought her shadow, found her then, Beside the gate that led within. I found her where her shadow was, Asleep. The air was cold and thin. The visitors are rare these days, The garden fading now. There was a time when winter Never came, but now, the leaves don't grow. Usually I find no shadows, There being no sun to cast them down. But I saw, when the lady came, The dark form of her shadow shown The visitor would stay awhile If she didn't wake; I let her sleep. Even silent company Is more kind than none to keep. I walked away, but still watched her, Until she woke like dawn, Rose and looked around my garden, Sighed, and then moved on. Tweet
