A pesky varmit in the backyard.

INTRUDER

The dog heard the intruder the instant Its carefully placed paw touched
the river rock, Black and white fur shimmering with moonlight, Moist
nostrils surveying the night air for hints Of danger, every muscle of
its hidden body tense... Poised, ready for retreat.

The dog quivered... Ears at attention, breath collecting on glass. Then,
at a pre-calculated moment, manicured Claws dig deep into carpet, tiny
ebony claws Grip porous fence, the flapping of a miniature Door, the
dog's yelping sirened as it gathered speed.

Then, silence...you hugged the dog's Safe return and good luck. Dog
compliments And rewards were given. The intruder, now a Spring in its
step, sly grin on its tiny black lips, Coat shuffling from side to
side... Steals into the night.
