The sudden death of Carl Archer. When it happened, everything seemed to be perfectly still. It was as if time itself for those few seconds. It was a few seconds that changed my life forever. I have heard it many people say that if they could go back in time, they would change this or they would change that. There is only one moment in time I would give anything to change. Here is what happened. First let me introduce myself, my name is Dave Archer and I have a brother named Carl who is two years younger than I am. Sure we have had our battles growing up as most siblings usually do. Over the years as we got older we became more tolerant of each other's company. We eventually learned that we liked to hang out together and go to parties and other social gatherings. He was my best friend. Anyways when it happened I was twenty-five and he was twenty-three. We were on our way to meet our girlfriends. I was dating a blond named Lisa and Carl was dating one named Wendy. We met them in high school and both out relationships were going strong. Carl told me that he was planning to ask Wendy to marry him. I knew that they would be very happy together. I also knew that Lisa would start to bug me about marriage as soon as she found out about Carl's plans. We were on our way to the movies to see the latest comedy that the women were dying to see. Personally Carl and I would have preferred an action or horror flick, but sometimes in life you have to make compromises. When we were a few feet from the theatre, Carl remembered that he left his wallet in the car. I offered to go get it for him since I was a faster runner than he was, but he declined and told me that he would meet me in front of the theatre. I started towards the theatre and that's when I head the screech of the car brakes behind me. There was a loud thud that soon followed it. A woman screamed as she raced towards me. Her face told me that she was in shock at what she had just witnessed. It was Wendy. Even if I never saw her, I knew what had happened. I knew in my heart that something terrible had just happened to my brother. Call it a sixth sense or whatever you like. All I knew at that moment was that everything was still for those few moments and I thought I was caught in a terrible nightmare. I didn't really want to, but I knew I had to. I had to see what happened. I slowly turned around and I saw a crowd of people star to crowd around my brother as he lay on the cold road. A pool of blood surrounded him. He didn't move at all. The driver sat behind his red van in a daze. I later found out that he had been drinking and he had run a red light. Without a moment of hesitation, I ran towards him and I screamed his name. I couldn't believe what had just happened. I didn't wan to believe it. I wished that it were just weird joke that he decided to play to freak me out or something. When I reached him, I knew he wasn't joking or faking. It was all too real. My brother, my only sibling and my best friend in the entire world were dead It didn't take long for the police and the paramedics to arrive at the scene. Wendy held Carl in her arms as tears raced down her face. All I could do was stare in astonishment. I still had a very hard time believing what had just happened Out of the corner of my eye I saw the police put the drink driver in handcuffs. It was at that moment I realized that that man was responsible for what happened to Carl. He had just stolen him from Wendy, his friends and family, and me. A rage grew inside me. I had never been so angry in my whole life. It was like someone else suddenly possessed me. All I wanted to do was get revenge for Carl. I charged at the man like an angry bull at a bullfighter. I was determined to make him pay for what he had just done. It was a very good thing that there was another cop nearby. If he hadn't of stopped me, I would have killed the man who murdered Carl. The officer who stopped me wasn't your average policeman. He was more Click here to read the rest of this story (75 more lines)
