Childhood memories of a mid-summer holiday.

Small Town 4th of July

people arrive as though by lot and along the curb lines form-- for their
trying to find that perfect spot before it gets to warm

down the street the excitement grows as the festivities get set to
begin-- but still there's time before the show to chat with neighbors
and old friends

for today's a great day to celebrate with a grand old style parade-- of
floats and bands that are all first rate a day of memories made

soon sounds of music fill the air when marching bands pass by-- flags
snap and ripple without a care all are proudly held on high

after the parade has come and gone there's still more time for fun--
special games are planned for everyone for a day hardly begun

then picnic baskets filled to the seam ready and waiting for folks to
eat-- and hand turned freezers of ice cream make a super summer treat

and when the evening comes to past really the best time of all-- loud
crashes as giant fireworks flash and sparkles gently fall

then the day is all to quickly done as darkness fills the sky-- but its
a fitting end for special fun on a small town Fourth of July
