THE MAPLE TOWN MURDERS PART TWO - JACKS RETURN He could clearly see the girl from where he stood in the shadows. She was about seven years old, was wearing a white dress, had short black hair and had about fifteen minutes to live. He grinned wickedly; this was almost going to be too easy. With some bright balloons in his hand he left his hiding place. Pretending not to see her he ran left, skipped right and hopped on his feet for a while. Then he whirled around to face her. She was crying softly and had her thumb in her mouth. She looked so innocent. He almost felt sorry for her in that moment, almost. "Well hello little lady, would you like a balloon?" he said with a smile plastered to his face. "I can't find my mommy,” she sobbed. "What does she look like?" he asked with fake concern. "W well" she stuttered, "She is tall and has sh short black hair like m me". "Don't cry little girl?" he said, "i think i saw her going in there a few minutes ago" he said pointing to the dark forest. "What was my my mom doing in there?" the girl asked with surprise. "I think she was looking for you, come on let's find her?". With that the man took her by the hand and led her into the blackness of the forest. Barry (13) and Paul (14) stood close together deep in the forests heart. "I think we should turn back man,” said Barry with chattering teeth. "I mean it's getting pretty dark in here, we might not be able to find our way back out in a while". "You're such a chicken shit Barry". "Are you saying that this place isn't freaking you out man?". "Not in the slightest". "Prove it?” "How?" asked Paul "By going all the way into the clearing". "No fucking way man, that place is haunted". "I thought you weren't scared". That was five minutes ago and as Paul neared the infamous murder sight he began to get a lot more scared than he was already. "How did he talk me into this" he whimpered. Every little noise was horribly amplified and so you wouldn't know if someone were right behind you, someone with a large knife perhaps. He quickly turned around expecting to see Jack with his bloodstained meat cleaver but there was no one there. "Fuck" he gasped breathless. He was very nearly there now. He could see it through the last few trees. "Oh Jesus please don't let Jack be there?" he prayed and took his first step into the clearing. Three seconds later his bladder let go and warm urine ran down his legs for the first time in nine years but he didn't notice that. What he was noticing was the girls body that was hanging from the solitary tree by the castle with her feet swaying from side to side in the wind dangling off the ground. The noose of the rope was wrapped tightly under her chin, which had made her face go, a horrible bluish colour. Her throat was savagely cut from ear to ear and the blood had run onto her white dress turning it almost completely red. Even from where he was standing he could see that the girls dead eyes were pointing at him. "Run" they seemed to say. "Get away" He couldn't take his eyes away from it and stood with his jaw wide open for about a minute. He also didn't notice that his hair had gone totally white with the shock of what he was seeing. "No, no" he cried and ran screaming back into the forest with the vision of the dead girl imprinted in his mind forever. The wind blew softly into his bearded face tickling him. Once more Charles Green stood on the building ledge looking down on the cars and trucks passing by. They looked to him like little ants scurrying in an orderly fashion. He laughed out loud at the thought. It began to get quite dark suddenly. The suns dying rays cast eerie shadows on the rooftop and Charles began to shiver. Suddenly there was a noise behind him, he turned around and made out a man standing in the dark. From what he could gather the man was wearing a hooded robe, which covered him from head to foot. This dark stranger terrified Charles completely. Who was he? And what was he doing? The man suddenly began to walk towards Charles. He wanted to run but he was frozen to the spot with fear. Now he noticed that the stranger had a large knife in his right hand. The man stopped when he was about three feet from Charles. "Who are you?" Charles asked him. The man then lifted his left hand to his head in an attempt to remove the hood from his face. Charles was suddenly filled with morbid fear. In that moment he wanted anything but to see his face. He backed away from the stranger and fell off the rooftop. As he fell through the air he could hear a noise that seemed to be coming from a hundred miles away. Ring, ring, ring.......... Ring, ring. Charles woke screaming on the floor of his bedroom. The only Click here to read the rest of this story (305 more lines)
