A child during a summer morning | |||
Once way back when in the cool summer morning Bright and early, dew still holding on A bed of tall grass surrounds the child gently A wire fence with vines and flowers creeping up reaching to hold on Kept between the puppy who welcomes the small hand So soft and fun, the child giggles Once way back when Ladybugs and butterflies awake with their friend the grasshopper, creeping on a blade of grass A caterpillar, to slow to play held, feeling it's fuzzy body then placed on a sunflower leaf A white feathery dandelion carefully plucked Eyes closed to make wish, watching feathers one by one float away with the wind Once way back when Lilacs and wild flowers picked from the root of their home Careful not to bother the fat bee who bends the stem over Running home, leaving the puppy behind the fence and the small creatures to play on their own. Watching mom putting the colorful surprise in a jar placing it on the kitchen table How pretty they look! Kissing the child on the head How wonderful this cool summer morning Once way back when Tweet
