The classic subject of unrequited love.

Green Eyes Divine

O, green eyes divine,

Wilt thou ever be mine?

Will I ever taste the dew of thy lips?

Or feel the swell of thy haughty hips?

Nay, my love shall remain a speechless thing,

That floats o'er thee on filmy wing.

And if ever thine emerald eyes should see,

This rotting love that feeds in me,

Do not demean me with piteous stare,

Or plead with me my love to share.

For my passion will turn to bitter hate,

And I'll wreak my vengeance upon thy face.

Let my love remain a buried child,

Let my love for thee be meek and mild.

Do not undertake to stir up my heart,

For the truth to thee I'll never impart.

Remain aloof and distant and dear,

Allow me in private to shed a tear.

For green eyes divine,

Thou shalt never be mine.
