A poem about a familiar face. | |||
The Face I see the lines around your mouth Turned down in an angry pout I remember the way your teeth were bared As you used to scream and shout. I see the furrows in your brow Ploughed deep through years of frown I see the gouge marks in your cheeks Through which the tears ran down. I see the eyes that were twisted shut To hide the desperate appeal The eyes that turned away So much they had to conceal. I see the face that is calm and serene Yet pale and waxy white The hands that lie across your chest Having given up the fight. If I could just erase those lines Smooth out the wrinkles of years Wash away all the sorrow With my hot and burning tears. Tweet
