OMM: Alternate Ending "Turn around Lennie," said George, "Stare across the riverbank as if you could almost see it." "Ok George, whatever you say," said Lennie as he slowly got up and turned toward the river bank. "Someday Lennie, we'll have our own place, with a cow and a garden and it'll all be ours. We could come and go whenever we wanted and no one would tell us what to do and where to go." "Tell about the rabbits George!" "Yes, the rabbits..." said George as he brought his gun up. "We'll have lots of nice soft rabbits..." George's hand didn't even waver as he began to squeeze the trigger. He could feel the slight pressure on the trigger. Lennie began to turn his head, "No Lennie, keep on looking and I'll tell you about the rabbits." Lennie silently obeyed. "We'll have rabbits, lots of soft white rabbits...can you see them Lennie?" "Yeah George, I can!" answered Lennie excitedly. "Good..." George pulled the trigger on his Luger; the gun bucked in his hands as a shot rang out. The boom rolled up the hills and down again, disturbing the quiet of the small clearing. George peered into the gaping wound and into the cavity that was once occupied Lennie's brain, spotting a single artery futily pumping blood to a brain that was no longer there. Cackling gleefully, George emptied the rest of his Luger's clip into Lennie's still body; the corpse jerked violently with each shot fired. Content with the elimination of the social misfit that was Lennie, George picked up the bullet riddled body of Lennie and threw it into the babbling brook, his blood tainting the water crimson. Just as George had finished reloading his weapon, the rest of the posse burst through the treeline. They burst right into a deadly hail of white hot lead as George systematically fired his weapon at each one of the men. Five men went down immediately, their lifeblood spilling onto the earth in quarts. Within instants, the clearing was strewn with the bodies of the men in the posse. Curly was the last man standing...but not for long. George took careful aim at Curly and pulled five times the trigger. Five lead slugs flew through the air, quickly closing the distance between them and their final destination. Three slugs cleanly pierced Curly's belly, only to mushroom as they journeyed farther inward into the cramped confines of his abdomen. In milliseconds, the slugs lost all forward momentum and remained forever lodged in Curly's abdomen. Meanwhile, the two other bullets had hit Curly in the lower jaw, causing an instant and devastating explosion of bone fragments, muscle tissue, and syrupy blood. Now, Curly blown to the ground by the impacting bullets, lay with blood oozing from the three holes in his abdomen and a tongue flopping around in a mouth that was technically no longer there. As Curly lay there amid blood and shattered teeth, George walked up to him. Intent on finishing the job, George pointed the muzzle of his 9mm to Curly's bloodied head and was about to pull the trigger when Curly, with the last vestiges of strength, leveled his 10-gauge double barreled shotgun and discharged both barrels into George's midsection. George was literally ripped in two by the force of the burning lead; his upper torso flew backward and landed in the river, next to the corpse of Lennie. In life, Lennie and George had been best friends and in death they were blood brothers. Now, once again, the clearing was overtaken by a deafening silence as nature reclaimed them all. And so they would lie there, their bones bleaching under the warm sun and their bodies fertilizing the grasses which Lennie's beloved rabbits would feed upon... Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, the great circle of life was once again complete. OMM: Alternate Ending 2 Tweet
