A friend who would do anything, anytime, anywhere for you, who would lay down his or her very life for you; what would your testimony to such a friend be? This is rather long so bear with it please. | |||
Ode To A Best Friend by J P St. Jullian - Please let me be to you the friend that you have been to me; And when you need, I'll be the help, you've always been glad to be. Let me prove to mean as much each minute of every day, As you have meant, dear friend of mine, to me along the way. They may be big or even splendid, these things that I would do, To brush the gray clouds from your skies and leave them only blue; Please let me say these kindly things from you I've so often heard, To see if I can raise your spirits the way that mine you've stirred. - I would that I might return the joy you've labored to give to me, Though I'm wishing you a need I hope will surely never be; To make you feel as rich as I, who gratefully travels on, My spirit filled with much resolve, having you to lean upon. Oh, I fondly wish with open heart that I could but repay Just a small portion of the gladness, that you have sent my way; If providence could lend me one wish fulfilled, then this is what it be, That I in turn can truly be the friend you've been to me! - And if we're blessed with a lengthy life which is so desired by all, Let us continue as friends in all years, never failing to answer a call. A friendship that is both lasting and true, that wonderful wine of life, May our cellars ever be stocked and renewed in good times and strife. We may seldom if ever equal our friendships generous first-growth, It will mellow with age, and be pleasant, as we dare to make an oath. Warmth makes the greatest difference, as affectionate tempers do attest, Unlike friendships grown cold and dull, ours can only coalesce. - Still we dare to make new friends in all while life is fair, But newness surely soon wears off, so we must maintain and repair. Friendships are tapestries woven of threads, of love, gold, and tears, That binds two kindred hearts together as slowly they pass the years. Friendships are such priceless gifts, never to be bartered or sold, And a friend like you have been to me, is worth much more than gold. If Genie you were, and I had one wish, my wish would gladly be, That I be the kind of friend to you, that you've always been to me! Tweet
