To Any Husband And Wife by J P St. Jullian Can we be guests in each others home and lives? Rendering polite “No” and courteous “Yes”; Making every effort to hide sour moods Behind true curtains of cheerfulness. Let's stay clear of sullen silences, Finding fresh, endearing things to say; It may be that you find me boring or dull, And you may think you bore me anyway. So I'll rap gently on the door of your heart, Happy for the chance to look within---and yet I'll always remember not to force my way, And to never commit such a breach of etiquette. So, you be my hostess and I'll be your loving host--- Until our need for amusement ends; We shall be lovers until the last door closes, Or better still, and best of all---let's be friends! Tweet
