Spin-off from the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix fanfic. Harry faces the funeral of his only surviving relatives, and comes to a turning point in his life. | |||
Transition... ‘Harry, Dumbledore told me that he wants to see you' said a slightly frowning Ron, as he made his way over to his friend sitting near the common room fire. ‘Did he say what it was about?' asked Harry as he pulled himself out of the comfy seat, getting ready to go. ‘Nah, but he looked a bit serious' said Ron flopping into Harry's now vacant seat. Harry walked down the stone corridors to Dumbledore's office, deep in thought, feet doing the walking for him. The sunset cast a bloody glow on the walls as the sun sank beneath the snow capped mountains surrounding the school. He made his way to Dumbledore's office, gave the password to the gargoyle, and paused outside the door. He straightened his skewed tie, and knocked the door quietly. ‘Come in' came the voice from behind door, soft and reassuring. ‘Good evening Harry, take a seat' said Dumbledore smiling warmly towards Harry. Harry nodded to the headmaster, and sat down in the comfy red seat, waiting for the headmaster to begin. Dumbledore stood up from his chair, and took a seat opposite him. Harry began to feel a little unnerved, wondering what had happened to cause the grave face on the usually cheerful headmaster. ‘Harry, it's your uncle, aunt and cousins funeral this weekend' he said, looking at Harry sadly. ‘Oh,' said Harry, taken by surprise by the statement. He had blocked out the memory of the night of the fire, and tried not thinking about it too much. ‘Would you like to go? You are of course excused from school for the weekend' said Dumbledore softly. ‘...Yes, I would' said Harry after a long pause, seriously considering not going. ‘I thought you would. Now, Molly Weasley has offered to take you there and back for the train for the trip home, if that's ok with you?' he said. Harry nodded, lost in thoughts of his years with the Dursleys. However much he hated them, this was not how it wanted it to end. Angry thoughts flew through his mind, and he nearly forgot Dumbledore was there until he broke into his thoughts a few minutes later. ‘Professor Figg will be taking you to Hogsmeade tomorrow night' he said. ‘What for?' asked Harry, confusion spreading across his features. ‘You'll need appropriate muggle clothing for the funeral. Now would you like anyone to go with you?' Dumbledore asked softly. ‘No. I'm fine on my own' said Harry firmly, getting up to leave. ‘Harry, I know it must be hard on you, loosing anyone is always hard, especially family' he said. Harry had his hand on the door handle, when he turned thoughtfully to the headmaster. After a few moments he spoke again. ‘They weren't my family' he said quietly, shutting the door quietly behind himself. * ‘So Harry, what did Dumbledore want with you?' Hermione asked a pale Harry, who had just sat by her in the common room. Click here to read the rest of this story (311 more lines)
