A very short story that... well... it's hard to explain, just read. | |||
The moon shone high in the sky that night, the skies were clear, but my conscience was not. I didn't know why I did what I did then, and I still don't know why I did it now. It was all a little too easy, everything was perfect, a little too perfect. The wine, the music, the food, the lights, the perfect web of seduction. The spider had laid her trap, and I was the innocent prey. "No, I mustn't" rang through my mind, as I took another sip from the glass, those emerald green eyes watching my every move, making sure that I wasn't going to try anything sudden. I was trapped, no chance of escape, and it was becoming clear that she wasn't going to give me any quarter, as she moved closer and closer to me, as I tried to break away, but the walls restricted me, I was a caged animal... weak, unsafe and scared. She stopped close to me, and gazed, her eyes spinning the web of seduction around me, pulling me closer and closer, like a scrap of iron to a magnet. What seemed like forever had lasted seconds, her lips touching mine like velvet, but the soft feeling was woven with a trace of poison, causing a felling of cold to surround me, causing me to push her off me, where I ran for the door, looking for safety in the arms of the one whose feelings for me were true, and whose feelings for the spider were the same as mine. Alas, it was not to be, for as cold and unforgiving was the push I used to escape, her harsh words were colder, commanding me away, telling me that I was never to be trusted again, her words shaking me, perhaps they were true. Perhaps I had let the spider spin her web around me, perhaps I was not to be trusted... No! What was I thinking? I would never let that happen to me! Never! But, the more I denied it, the greater the truth became reality, capturing my soul with swift ease, and the facts bit me coldly on the shoulder, I had become what I feared, I had become like the spider, I was shallow. The days have passed since I fought the spider, and now, under the bright white of the moonlight, beaming down on me, the memories of one year ago fading as I gazed into the eyes of my new love, and her comforting smile reassuring me that... the spider was now tame.
