A long, but touching poem about what it is like to grow up, and grow away from your best friend. | |||
We met in the eighth grade Both misfits, and both new Yet, I knew that first day That I would fall in love with you. I did everything I could to get to know you But at first, you were so shy I wanted you to open up to me Without even knowing why. Finally, you spoke to me In that beautiful way you do And we made plans to meet again, Hopefully, real soon. Your house was close to mine, But to us children, it was too far Neither of us had a bike And we couldn't drive a car. But we managed with what we had With parents who helped along the way And our friendship blossomed strong and true Which it still stands today. We have had our rough times Like so many other friends But we talked it over, we figured it out And we didn't want it to end. Sometimes people came between us Or else they would sure try But I can't blame that all on them: My jealousy was sky high. We are older now, And we aren't so insecure We have grown into our minds And we are a lot more mature. I can still remember some silly fights That brought us to tears Because we couldn't put aside our problems And listen to each others fears. Some fights were ridiculous They had no merit at all Click here to read the rest of this story (105 more lines)
