“Guys, I’ll be later than normal, my damn employees can’t add right.” Nicole Harris explained to her best friend, Michelle Brickley, and her boyfriend, Benjamin. Nicole sighed and turned on her heel and walked back into Rides Office. Benjamin Colyer, more commonly called Benny, looked at Michelle and shrugged his shoulders. They turned and walked up to the Service Center together, where the rest of their friends would be. They’d wait for Nicole up there. “She was the one who wanted the extra responsibility,” Michelle said as her and Benny discussed Nicole and her recent promotion to Assistant Supervisor in the Rides Department. “Who knew she’d complain as much as she does?” Benny, rolling his eyes, knew that Michelle was incredibly jealous of Nicole. After all, who wouldn’t be? Nicole was perfect in every way possible. She stood a slender 5 foot 7 inches, was a star field hockey player, and was the drum major of Millersville University’s Marching Unit. Nicole had plans to get her bachelor’s degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology and wanted to apply to a law school. Michelle, on the other hand, didn’t know what she wanted from life. Michelle was decent looking too, but nothing compared to Nicole. Michelle had an average height of five foot five, and long curly brown hair down past her shoulders. Michelle had played field hockey, until her body had given out on her, and used to care about music, like Nicole did, but had one bad experience chase her away from music. Neither Benny nor Nicole fully understood why. “Michelle, she deserves this promotion, she’s worked her ass off for them for four years now. Although she does complain a lot, who wouldn’t, especially with the crew that she got.” Michelle shrugged her shoulders, admitting Benny was right. But Michelle just didn’t think it was fair. Nicole got everything she ever wanted, including Benny. Michelle had been in love with Benny for over a year now, but once Nicole and he hooked up, she knew she had no chance against Ms. Perfect. Not that Michelle hated Nicole, she really didn’t. She was just frustrated that she wasn’t as perfect as her best friend since they were diapers together. Nicole never had to work for anything in her life; she didn’t know the meaning of the word. Michelle had to work for everything, but yet success hadn’t found her yet. Such is life, Michelle thought. “Hey! Michelle! Wait up!” Michelle turned around to find Brooke Fackler, her other best friend, running to catch up to them and smiled. “Hey girl! What’s up? How was Cracker tonight?” Michelle inquired. Michelle, Benny, and Brooke were all ride leads in the Minetown ride area. Michelle had been at Bear; Benny was at Turnpike, while Brooke was stuck at Cracker. Although Cracker was Michelle’s favorite ride in the group, it was the most temperamental. “Cracker behaved really well tonight for me, but never as good as it behaves for you. What’s the secret? I saw you had a slight problem at Bear, what gives?” Brooke asked. “It’s Bear, give me a break. You know Bear hates me. No, actually, Glenna sneezed back at dispatch and let go, nothing major.” Michelle sighed while explaining what happened. It had been the worst night of Michelle’s life. Not only had the ride broken down on her four times, but she had the worst employees possible, and had gotten yelled at by Bell, her supervisor. Bell, she knew was just taking out his frustrations on her, and didn’t take it seriously. He’d come up for the one break down and just let loose, while Benny was on his way up to break her, so she could eat. Not that she would have anyway; Michelle was determined to lose weight. She wasn’t fat, but she wasn’t exactly skinny either. Nothing like Nicole, Nicole was only 130 pounds, Michelle was around 135 but with her being so much shorter, it looked like a lot more. But Michelle’s weight was the least of her worries. “Ouch.” Brooke and Benny both grimaced. They knew how Glenna was, totally clueless. Brooke turned to Benny and asked how Turnpike was. “You know TP, nothing ever happens there, unless Cracker goes down, and since that didn’t happen tonight, Gary and I had nothing to do.” Gary Click here to read the rest of this story (499 more lines)
