A brief essay on faith. | |||
THE SKEPTICAL CHRISTIAN Copyright 2001 by Jennifer Green I sit here, about to become a member of my local Christian church. Let me tell you, I really sometimes think it's all a bunch of hooey. Sometimes I can only muster faith the size of that proverbial mustard seed. Hmmm, the soloist is really good today. Faith. What is it? It's what we have when everything else is gone. Friends, family, even a sense of personal safety will depart you, yet we walk on, get out of bed, get up the next morning. If you can be a little more grateful, a little less selfish, a little more giving, a little braver, I guess it's all worth it. What else do we have? You can't drink, smoke, eat, shop, or sleep around too much to be happy. Believe me, I've tried them all at one time or another for solace. It's better to be a skeptic in church on Sunday mornings than in a bar or casino. That's why there are so many of us trying, with varying degrees of success, to feel our way along in the darkness. And it's nice to have a few friends' hands to hold along the way. Tweet
