A dose of wisdom from a humble old tree. | |||
At the back of my granny's house stands a graceful oak tree that has stood there well over 200 years. It has a wide dark trunk and thick arms that rise to the heavens with indisputable strength. I grew up around that tree. And without even trying, it became my ironic teacher. It was frightening, yet fun. It was dangerous, yet safe. It was hard, yet soft. There was a time when I ran straight to that tree whenever I came to my grandmother's house. But that was long ago. Now there're bills to pay and kids to raise and appointments and meetings to keep. What little time I have left over by the end of the week, I spend it with my granny, not with the tree. Never the tree. And yet it stands there, beyond the kitchen window, watching me, listening to me, patiently waiting for my return. Like God. Tweet
